What is the best thing to use on a henna tattoo to make it last longer?

My gf used to do a lot of henna. She'd touch it up from time to time. Much easier to do that than the initial work, since she could just follow the lines.

She also made sure the initial work really set. Heat seemed to help a lot. She never tried oil that I know of, but trust the above poster more than me.

I've put on Mehndi (Indian Tattoos) all my life, especially during wedding. Lots of brides do this to ensure a deeper and longer color.

1. While you still have the Mehndi on, let it dry. Then, mix together some water, some lemon juice, and some sugar. Saturate a cotton ball and dab the cotton ball onto the mehndi lightly.

2. If you've already removed the mehndi, try apply a little bit of Vicks Vaporub at night. I'm not sure how it's supposed to make it last longer but oddly enough, it does work for some people, myself included.

3. Mehndi generally fades within 2 to 4 weeks, depending on how much you use your hands. Try to keep them out of soap and water. Wear gloves while doing the dishes. That's pretty much it, I guess :)

Oh, one more thing. If you find the Indian Tattoo fading after a couple weeks, you can always apply the henna over it again :) Since the lines are already there, it should be fairly easy.

leave the paste on for 8-12 hours. using lemon juice promotes darker staining which will make it last longer. also using essential oils like eucalyptus or clove or tea tree, will also promote darker staining. also washing the area repeatedly and applying lotion will make it fade faster.

When you make the paste, use black tea and lemon juice instead of water. Let it sit as long as you can(without picking it off) heat is suppose to help too.

I think I heard that lemon might help. But to be honest, they are short lived and there isn't much you can do to keep them. they are fun while they last.
