Maybe you are correct. I have often thought it may be a human need to believe in a supreme being.
I think there is a God and I do not think there is a hell or satan.

No, not really. There is something inside the human machine that reasons that there has to be something beyond the physical restraints of our present space-time domain. The Bible proves this with infallible evidence. The question is, what do we do with this evidence? Do we believe it and use it toward our benefit, or do we disbelieve it, appear intellectual in the here and now, and take our chances after death?
As for the existence of "a devil", this was explored by a secular psychologist who wanted answers to the question of evil within individuals. When it came to being "possessed", what he found was 90% explainable psychosis. It was the other 10% that he had no way to explain. It's a fascinating study.

yes, sure. So first, God and Devil are a solution for the fear of death (I guess that even an eternity in Hell sounds better than an eternity of non-existence). Then, it is surely easier to face inner deficiencies if you imagine them to come from outside, from some Devil, on the one hand, and also it is easier to keep hope if you think that there is Something out there watching over you and wishing that you succeed and maybe even helping you. ...Within some decent limits, being religious is really not a bad thing.

You are overly generalizing. Christians believe in the Devil Muslims believe in basically the same thing the rest of the world (over 50%) doesn't.

It probably has a lot to do with being created in God’s image. We know deep inside that there is more to existence than just us.

It is the realistic belief that life consists of more than satisfying our selfish needs. That we exist in a world where we are all joined together, and that one part is opposed to the true purpose.

The fact that since they were young someone was telling them that "if you are good and do this you go to heaven but if you are bad then you go to hell, so do what we tell you is right and you go to heaven".

The belief in God stems from our inability to see the future, and or the unknown. The belief in satan was perpetrated by the church to keep the masses in line
