How many cans of wet cat food are sold in the U.S. each year?

Brand Week magazine says in 2005 they sold 1.9 billion dollars. Estimating an average price of about $.50/can, tha't almost 4 billion cans.

There is no possible way to get an exact number. Some stores say they sell them, but in reallity they have to throw them away since they are out of date and no one bought them. So, I don't know how they can tell.
