There is power in God's Word, and one can not fully understand why it's called the Sword of the Spirit, until scripture is used to resist temptation and release strongholds. Temptation is not wrong, but giving in to that temptation is a sin.

When an unwelcome thought enters my mind, I immediately quote scripture and pray. Taking a second to reflect or "reason" on it, makes resistance more difficult. What is your experience? How do you handle temptation, and what are some of your favorite verses?

Mr. Ed you have much to learn. Magic has nothing to do with God. However, there is power in prayer. When Satan tempted Jesus for 40 days, Jesus only replied with scripture and prayer to resist the great manipulator. If you feel that you are above the Lord, and have a different method, you are already in trouble. Most christians have no idea the power contained in scripture, while Satan knows very well. This puts many Believers at a disadantage.

One of the greatest tricks by Satan, is blinding Christians to their power and authority through God, through His Word and Faith. Satan will fleee from a Believer he truly understands the importance of these truths.

As far as sexual immorality the scripture at Col.3:5 helps
"Deaden, therefore, your body members therefore that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite, hurtful desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."

We are to deaden those members, try to not think about them. Also pray for strength. Always remembering how powerful Jehovah is, and how he takes into account us wantingt to please him and will give us the strength that we need to do so if we are sincere.

1 Cor. 10:13 also helps
"No temptation has taken YOU except what is common to men. But God is faithful, and he will not let YOU be tempted beyond what YOU can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out in order for YOU to be able to endure it"

This helps us to see that what ever tempation is upon, it's nothing new. Satan uses the same stuff all the time. By having a daily routine of bible reading, we can be fully aware of his tactics and be less likely to fall into the traps. Also, this scripture is so great because it helps us to see how Jehovah, will make a way out of our situatution and help us to endure it until we come out of the situation, as long as we remain loyal to him and follow his counsel.

Hope that helps.

The power in God's Word comes from knowing, understanding and living God's Word. It's not a magic power, as if quoting it suddenly would make temptation either go away or strongly diminish.
