I own a fence company. I have a website, 800 #, and signage on my truck. The market price of fence has fallen to the natural price. Bigger companies suck up work at low prices, and try to make up for it in volume.
I did a home and garden show 2 weeks ago, and nothing has hit. I dont advertise in local papers or flyers, because most of my time will be wasted by price shoppers.
what is they best way to convey quality and service to the 20% of the market that wants it?

TV commercial $3,657.00
Home show $2,728.00
Newspaper add $345.00
Referral......Priceless
$$ for referrals (from past customers, friends, the guy at the gas station) I am a G.C. and if you chase advertising but can't compete with some others than don't even try.

Hi, are you sure about the not using paper flyers thing?

I know a another fencing company who get all of the work doing only flyers and papers (well you know the blue and yellow books)... I am sure you have tried this so lets say perhaps the answer(solution) would differ depending on your location.. My friends company covers herfordshire and some london however if you are sub sub urban then that would be different. May I suggest that anyone following this in further answers gives a geographical location and what works best there... now that would be REALLY useful to you... regards mick.

You have to advertise - you quality and service message will only work if people are exposed to it. I don't think television would be a good choice for you - entirely too expensive. An ad in your local paper's home and garden or living section (usually run on Sundays) would be highly effective for you. Also, flyers are a good idea - just target the more affluent neighborhoods. People with more money are less price conscious and more image focused so they make a natural target for you.

I would suggest that you also check with your local chamber of commerce - perhaps you are already a member. I recently came across an article on the web that addressed the benefits of this - the link should appear below. Networking I believe in your case is the key. Not sure how long the link below will be active. Best of luck to you and your venture.
