what is the time frame to get the passport issued for a person?

if we wanna get the passport made, how long does it take normally to get the passport issued without the 'tatkaal' scheme?

The usually take about 6 weeks to get a passport, but currently right now they are taking a little longer because so many people are applying for the passport because of the new travel regulations that went into effect in January. Right now it is taking any where from 6-8 weeks because the requirement changed in January for traveling to the Caribbean.Many people travel in the winter months and you have spring breakers and graduates traveling. I think the time frame will slow down in a couple of months. Right now you can still travel to US possessions without a passport

We applied the end of November 2006 and we got ours the first week in January. It took 6 weeks. My daughter and husband applied the first week of January and it took almost 7 weeks.

Normally its 6 weeks, but because of the new laws that went into effect in January, I have heard it can take up to 3 months due to the back log. If you need one urgent, you probably will have to have it expedited and that could cost you additional 200.00 in some cases

I just got mine back in the mail. I went to a "passport fair" at our local post office and filled out the form, they took my photo there and I got my passport in one month. Very easy. Bring I.D. And certified birth certificate, which must be mailed with your paperwork, and 4 weeks later you get your passport and birth certificate back in the mail.

It can take a couple months to get a passport issued, so don't wait! There are companies who can rush your processing, but they charge a lot of money for their service.
