And if God always existed, why couldn't the universe have always existed?

The basic logic is...

If something exists, then something exists necessarily...

It is logically consistent to say that the universe existed eternally. The problem with that position is that the evidence indicates otherwise (in the big-bang theory).

The static universe theory was the prevailing world view until Hubble happened to note that the universe was expanding... running time in reverse, this meant that the universe had a point of origin. Einstein's Theory of Relativity clearly indicated a finite universe, something which he and many others rejected on the basis that they found it "philosophically repugnant" not on the basis of evidence. Einstein even introduced a "fudge factor" to make the data fit the preconception (oh, yes science is always neutral :P ) He had to retract this with Hubble's work.

Therefore, if something exists, it is perfectly logical to say that the universe is eternal, except the evidence says that it is not. It is also perfectly logically consistent to say that God is eternal.

Your question is fundamentally flawed, as you are you are willing to grant eternity to the universe, but not to God. You need to use the same standard to both.

I could accept atheism as a true proposition if it were not for the evidence to the contrary

The Biblical answer is that nobody created God. He is by nature the eternal God. He was not created at all. He always was, is, and always will be. He did not work Himself up into a position to be God neither did He inherit the position from His parents, for He had no parents—no mother, no father. He has no beginning and will have no end. The fact that God is eternal is stressed in the Bible. The psalmist wrote

Even from everlasting to everlasting you are God”(Psalm 90:2).

Moses records God saying.

For I lift my hand to heaven, and say, as I live forever (Deuteronomy 32:40).

God Is Uncaused

The existence of intelligent life already answers the question.

The acceptance of a divine creator that has intelligently created everything is a free will gift from those who accept that very electrical/volt/amp and breath that keeps ones blood pumping.

God already is, why should I doubt him.

"reason" is an existent. If there replaced right into a "reason" to the creation of life, then life already existed, interior the type of the reason. by way of fact the existent reason replaced into in life, life existed and replaced into no longer led to, yet has been, is, and, physics tells us, consistently would be. So neither no longer something nor something got here out of Nothingness; Nothingness in no way existed, and, physics tells us, in no way can exist. this is subsequently logical to have self belief that each little thing has consistently been "here."

Here's the BIG BANG theory for you - God wanted to create the universe, and BANG - there it was!

Creation is organization of existing matter. It is often confused with producing something from nothing. Nothing comes from nothing. All things come from some pre-existing material that is changed through organization.

God is not subject to " Natural Laws"..He exists outside of nature.
Nature and its laws were creatd for mankind, the seasons, the planets, the seas. They are in tune with us, with humanity.

Well....... Is that your first name?

My guess is that you will hear that God has always existed because he is out of time. A very convenient answer to that question if you are a confused Christian.
