Americans are familiar with the concept, but are too lazy to do it. Everybody in America just wants to eat what they want to and do what they want to. Filthy bastards, if you ask me.

Americans are familiar with the concept of caloric intake and its relation to weight loss/gain. But I don't think the term "calorie-controlled diet" has as much currency here as it does in some other areas, such as the UK. If you Google it, you'll see what I mean.

Italians would say "between saying something and doing it there is an ocean".
So yes, Americans know it but they rarely do it. Reason is, motivation AND too many quick fixes AND the absurd concept that "everybody is right" or "everything goes".
In Europe a fat person is shamed. In the US, they made up the "fat is beautiful" line.

i'm doing that right now. i'm supposed to stay between 1200-1550 calories a day. i've been doing it for almost 2 months and have been in range 11 times :) thats ok. i've lost 6.5 lbs with no exersize. i'm starting the exersize half of the "diet" this month, so hopefully i'll do a little better.
if you're interested in this type of lifestyle change (its not a diet) go to http://www.sparkpeople.com

In a lot of ways, I'm sure many of us are. However, we tend to make food choices that throw this concept out the window.

apparently not, which is the reason we are all obese and overweight. also, we don't excercise enough, and even though we are the country putting the pressure on people, especially girls to be thin, we stil smoke, dont work out, dont eat healthy, sometimes dont eat at all, get plastic surgery and take diet pills to lose weight and wonder why we die of anorexia and lung cancer at 35.
