They will make him report straight to AIT, you can either drive him there, if its close( as a Drill Sgt at Fort Benning ,Ga lots of parents or family members drove their soldiers to Fort Gordon,Ga for Signal School) or he has to go the way the military sends him.
* Note to every one who is saying otherwise...I just finished being a Drill Sgt as of Dec 8th 2006) Lol after Basic Combat Training you go straight to AIT, unless you did OSUT you go straight to AIT. After Ait you go get your stuff and report to your Unit, now after AIT they have the HARP(Hometown Army Recruiting Program) where you can be at your hometown and help your recruiter out, but thats after AIT.

I don't know the answer to your question as it has been a while since I was in the military...hahaha bout 30 yrs. We didn't get leave in between back then, but seems that Airborne 1 knows what he is talking about. By the way, don't listen and worry about what those idiots say on these things. I am proud for you, your family and most of all for your son to join. I am sure he will do great and the Good Lord will take care of him. He could have cowered and run for cover like so many others in this day and age, but, he is strong and dedicated to his belief in this great country. Thank you for raising him as you did. I wish him and your family good luck in all yours and his endeavours.

It depends on the army.
When I got out of tech school (AF version of AIT), I did have about 2 weeks leave before I went to Germany. Although that was not during a time of combat.
Although, he can always ask the folks there.

after ait you get two weeks to get to your duty station. as long as he gets to his duty station on time he can come home. unless he gets hometown recruiting then he will work with his recruiter for two weeks and after that two weeks he will still get his two weeks of leave.

This is complicated. Your son could put in for leave. Or he could put in for HARP duty. That is where he would work for his recruiting office for a few hours a day. It usually depends on if they need him at his new duty station. I would recommend that your son put in for leave. This is what my husband did when he enlisted.
