I would like to keep a jar at work with me if possible.... for various snacks and things but we don't have a community fridge. Is this possible?

Thanks for your answers.

Thank you for the responses so far everyone.

I'm adding some info as a user requested some answers...

The jar would be in a mini file-cabinet at my desk and the room is probably about 65-68 degrees. The jar would be opened once a day for a minute tops. The area is very clean and the only silverware that would touch it are single-serving plastic knives. It would most likely be store bought grape jelly, either Smuckers or Kroger brand.

Hope this information helps!
Thanks again! :-)

The good news is that sugar is a natural bacterial retardant...so taking it to the office with you in the morning then returning it home with you to the fridge at night should be ok. I have a better idea, why not buy a small cooler and take it to the office with you? My hubby does it and he only forgets to bring it home once in awhile...;-)

How much heat and light will the jelly be exposed to? How often will the jar be opened? How clean is the area in which it will be kept? Will only clean spoons or knives remove the jelly, or will knives that have just been used on something else be used? Will it be homemade or store bought jelly? What kind of jelly?

Unopened it will last for years...

You, however can simply take a smaller amount with you in a tiny jar to last you a week at a time. Leaving the bulk of the jelly or jam at home and in the frig.

A week of room temp. in a very small amount will not harm you since these types of preserves are high in sugar which keep many things from growing on them. HOWEVER they do spoil over time, once opened, so simply do what I suggested above and you will be fine and so will your jelly.

: )

Restaurants have those little one-serving packs of jelly. Get some of those.
