What do you think of the United States Coast Guard?

Are you aware of the Coast Guard Academy? It is a great way to get a colleged degree while getting paid. You also have a guranteed job on graduation.

The U. S. Coast Guard also plays a very vital role in port as well as at sea. They conduct mandated safety inspections of foreign flag ships, provide enforcement for the hazardous cargo regulations, and a whole host of other services we never read about in the news.

When I was in need of personnel for my ship agency business I always tried to recruit from the Coasties recently out of the service. Well trained, dedicated, and quite often certified in the areas that I needed help in.

They are great in protecting out coastline and other water ways. They do search and rescue missions including body recovery, stop the flow of narcotics, arrest suspects at sea, They aren't combat sailors like The Navy but they are also a big part of the military in naval safety

I think highly of the Coast Guard. They work hard putting their own lives on the line to save the lives of others just like any other branch of our military.

It's a nice place, my uncle taught there for a few years. It's in a shady part of Connecticut though...I lived just around the corner from the academy in Hodges Square part of New London.

I would recommend it.

My son's a Coastie...stationed in Michigan.

So, yeah, I have a high opinion of the Coast Guard.

I wish I went CG....they got it made. Unless you get NW stations which totally suck.
