I called HP and they said that besides the fact that Windows is updating continuously, they have all the drivers you need on their website. So what's the big deal?

The supposed problems everyone has about it are overblown. Almost any product bought in the last couple of years is going to already be compatible with Vista, and others will have downloadable updates free from Microsoft or the manufacturer.

The only problem I've had with it so far is iTunes. Apple's been too lazy to issue an update for Vista, so you cannot sync an iPod at the moment with Vista.

Misses most of the drivers we need out here, in schools and businesses, in the U.S. DOT, and FAA. There goes 60,000 systems that cannot run their applications!

Other large portions of the government and businesses in at least 165 nations are mandating GNU/Linux, and school systems in 39 states have switched.

The big deal is that I own over 100 computers, and take in crubside donations, recycle them to poor folks, charities, church schools.

So, we all run GNU/Linux because it includes FOSS (Free Open source Software), thousands of free apps, runs in minimal hardware, boots almost everything.

http://pclinuxos.com has 1900 applications on a standard Live CDrom of 700 Mb size, installs 5500+ in 6Gb or runs live.

DamnsmallLinux is a 49Mb system, with hundreds of applications, that I carry in a USB stick, or on a pocket mini-CDrom. http://livecdlist.com has 310 distros.

http://distrowatch.com has hundreds more.
