in the army (active duty) we deploy for a year. if you are there longer than 365 days they have to pay you extra and they dont want to do that so it is very rare for an active duty soldier to be deployed to iraq longer than 365 days.

WOW somebody said after a year they pay you more,lol. Any deployment date over 30 days they pay you family separation pay. When Iraq you get paid family separation, overseas pay, and hazardous duty pay.
Active duty Army deploy upto 12 months but it can be extended
Reserve and National Guard units deploy upto 18 months (6months are training), but can be extended.
The Army extends dates based on needs of The Army, and it does happen, lol at they dont wanna pay you money so they dont do it, they have and WILL extend your tour.

Orders are usually for a year. But could be 18 months or even up to 2 years. Not usually less than a year though, especially not with the current state of affairs there.

Typically Army and Marines serve one year tours to Iraq.

1 year is usually a sure bet. Although my husband has served shorter tours (5 months and 8 months) before. It really just matters on what the military needs you fpr at that time.

Normal tour is 12 months. Most are extended to 18 months

right now its at least a year. thew only way out is to be a pregnant woman and then once you deliver you will be transfered to a deploying unit

One year tours, unless they get extended, and it could end up being longer.
