Smile, nod, act like I'm taking them seriously, but not be too friendly with them. Quietly think "f*ck you", and always watch my back. People like that always have some sort of hidden agenda and can't be trusted. The real problem is that most of the time you are going to encounter people like that in the workplace, so you can't just avoid them.
