I really totally understand -it cost a fortune in food for my daughters open house but it was an open house. You should send out invitations to a "family" party at your home or church and send out graduation announcements to other people esp those you wish to add a little note too. At a graduation party the theme is you, make displays of your pictures over the years of school and any special events and awards or plays you were in. Give people something to look at and think back on!

Well, unless you have boundless stacks of cash, you can't invite everyone to your party.
Start by making a list
1. Start with a budget. How much can you spend on the party?
2. Whom do you wish to "truly" invite? Family? close friends?
3. Figure out how much the party would cost per person.
4. What are the results? You may have to "cut" the party list.
Start with relatives who live far away and can't make it anyway.
Then, start cutting from there.
5. Your invite list should include those within your budget.
Some people will just drop by to wish you good luck and maybe drop off a gift or card. They may just want a drink or snack.
What's wrong with "Graduation" as your theme? If you want a more complicated theme, that will 'eat' into your budget.
Those not invited will understand. Tell them you're on a budget. You're inviting close friends and family members.
There will probably be plenty of other parties to go to and plenty of food and drink to go around.
Another option would be to have a "multiple" party. Other grads can go into together to celebrate. Combine resources for a bigger party at a hall or church or something like that.

well, i would let them know that due to your budget you are only going to be able to invite immediate friends and family. However if you are able try to send out announcements to EVERYONE just do not include INVITES in all of them. That way they all will still feel included in the event and have something to remember it by.
Regarding the theme. Stick to what you want to do. It is YOUR party, not anyone else's. If you wish to do Betty Boop or Tinkerbell then go for it! Here are some sites that might help you in planning your party!
Congratulations!!

You do not have to invite all of your friends. Just the ones you feel the closest to and you don't need to invite your teachers. As far as neighbors go just invite the ones that live next door or the ones where you use to hang out.
The themes that you have picked is kind of like a little kids choice. Try some thing like what you want to do after graduation, so if you are going to college pick a theme that is a symbol of the school you want to attend. If you don't plan to go to college pick a theme of some thing that you would be happy doing after graduation.

The limit should be space -- if you're having it inside, you need to consider how many the room will hold. Of course, if you have an open house (people come and go), you can accommodate more. I'd worry less about the refreshments than simply inviting people you care about -- you can do an open house with non-alcoholic beverages and snacks that shouldn't break the bank. As to themes, I think the theme is already chosen -- your graduation.

You can invite family and friends, and then for the rest just send them Graduation Announcements letting them know you graduated. It is cheap and easy, do it on your own computer.

its your party - SO HAVE FUN!!!!-guests shouldn't choose the hosts party theme
everyone can bring-a-dish- that keeps the cost down on food
or have different people who are definitly coming to bring specific like drinks, cutlery, snacks etc.
it would be really fun if everybody wore something related-like t-shirts etc.
