No. The Rapture is a name given to an instance in the Bible in which all believers both dead and alive will be raised and translated into glorified bodies to stand in God's presence. I can't quote it perfectly yet, but the Scripture says something to the effect that "the dead in Christ (saints who had already died beforehand) shall rise first. Then those who are alive and remain (believers) shall be caught up to meet Him in the midway air." I know the word "rapture" doesn't appear in the Bible, so indulge me as I explain it's usage. It comes from a Greek word first used to describe the event "rapare" which literally means "to snatch out or seize". The Scripture says this event will take place "in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye". Almost too imperceptible for the eye to see! In an instant, all believers who ever populated Earth to that moment in time will suddenly disappear, and cemeteries all over the world will have many graves opened in a rather distinctive, almost explosive manner!

The Rapture is a recent interpatation of a pair of Biblical verses. The interpetation caomes only if you read those verses out of context and wring them beyond recognition. Basically a preacher decided that it was "unfair" for Christians to have to face the horrors of the Tribulation along with the Pagans so he made up this fanciful idea that the faithful would be vaccumed up to spare them the pain and agony.

It's magical thinking on a grand scale. Don't worry about it. It's not going to happen any more than the Christian Ultimate Revenge Fantasy will.

Actually, to clear this up, the idea of the "rapture" is a fundamentalist Protestant belief that all Christians will be taken, body and soul, up into Heaven to be with Jesus.

Whether this is supposed to happen at the beginning, middle, or end of the Apocalypse, is up for debate, as different Christian groups believe different things.

Non-Protestants (i.e. Catholics, Lutherans, Orthodoxy, etc) do NOT believe in the idea of a "rapture" as they believe that Heaven will be created ON EARTH at the end of all things, and that believers will live on this Earth-Heaven with Jesus and all the other believers.

Mass christian suicides? Oh we can hope! Make a change from the religious nuts flying planes into buildings and exploding bombs on tube trains...

Shame the Rapture is just a big fairy tale; a world without fundamentalist christians would be just too good to be true! (well, maybe if they beamed up the extremist Mussies too!!)

Beam me up Spock, sorry I mean Jesus!

No, no, the Rapture is the day where all the Christians are going to go to heaven, though a beam of light, I do belive, not comitting suicide. Yet, your probly going to regret it, since the anti-chirist will come, who knows, he might be a small child right now, and it'll be a small taste of hell before the earth destorys.

the rapture is a bible prophecy. there are 3 different interpretations of it, but all revolve around the belief that at some point in the future, Jesus Christ will return for all of the people on earth, past and present, that have chosen to believe in HIm as the Son of God and saviour. He will appear in the sky, as when He left, and all believers will in some supernatural way, suddenly appear in the sky with him. They will go to heaven, leaving all those who refused to believe on earth.

now the timing of this event and what happens afterward is up for debate among different believers but that is the basic gist of it.

The Rapture of the Church is the calling of God's children before the tribulation period of the end times.....It is not about committing suicide.

What? The rapture is when Christ returns and takes with Him those who call Him savior. Where did you get the idea that people commit suicide?

Would that make it more attractive to you?

No, the Rapture is another term for the second coming of Jesus Christ, when He take all of His followers with Him back to Heaven.
