No, it's for 2006 returns only, but you can file an amended 2006 return and claim it and get your refund.

Based on IRS published announcement, this telephone tax credit is one time only for tax year 2006 (Jan 1/06 to Dec 31/06).

IRS pointed out that 30% of 2006 individual tax returns did not claim $30-$60 (or even more if you can prove it.... i.e. phone bills.)

Given the situation that this phone tax credit is only for this year, the only course of action is file 1040x (Amended Tax Return), which is pretty easy & won't cost you a thing.

If you had used a paid preparer, or used a computer program to prepare this federal return, you might be able to have them file 1040X (amended return) on your behalf.

However, please be aware that some preparers / software company might dare to charge you extra $$$, so I think it's up to you.

Check out the IRS site for amending returns - it's not difficult as long as you have the original (submitted) tax return on hand. Give it a shot, and you will be happy that you did.

No. This is a one time deal. You could file an amended return, if you think it's worth the $40

You should be able to file a admendment to claim the missed deduction this year. I don't think it will be available next year. So look into filing it now.
