I found this really good looking recipe for biscuits. This is my first attempt to make them. I was wondering if I can substitute the self-rising flour for all-purpose flour. Is it a major change? Will it taste differently?

INGREDIENTS
2 cups self-rising flour
1 cup milk
6 tablespoons mayonnaise
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
In a large bowl, stir together flour, milk, and mayonnaise until just blended. Drop by spoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets.
Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

That's the recipe. If anyone can give me pointers or tips since it's my first time making biscuits, I'll greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

You can use all purpose flour to replace the self rising flour in this pecipe but you will need to add 3 tea spoons baking powder and 1/2 tea spoon of salt. drop your biscuit by the heaping table spoon full on the pan (1 heaping table spoon = 1 BISCUIT ) NOW MAKE YOU A PAN OF COUNTRY GRAVEY AND YOU ARE IN BUISNESS . ps. use a regural table spoon to drop biscuits . Not a measuring table spoon. Happy eating jim b

When it comes to baking never deviate from the recipe. Baking is an exact science. The self rising flour is necessary because it is the leavening ingredient. I would drop a tablespoonful every 2 inches on the cooking sheets

If you use the all purpose flower it will not rise. They will be flat as a pancake. And will not taste good.
Go out and get all FRESH ingredients. It does make all the difference.
Good luck

It may change the texture slightly, but it should still work. Thanks for posting the recipe, I may try it myself. The mayonaise should help with giving them a nice texture though, even if you change the flour.

It will probably be ok because there is no baking powder or salt in the recipe. Do it.
