In my opinion Saddam had to go. The war is justified because his oppression of his people. Oil for food was not going to food but financing homicidal bombers killing women and children in Israel. He violated the cease fire agreement after the 1991 War.

He was acting as he has WMD.

Ba'ath party was equivalent to Fascism.

I don't believe that going to war in Iraq was a lie, I do believe it was a mistake. I I said so before the invasion and I still believe it. However one thing has been accomplished with this war, we have succeeded in unmasking the real culprit to many of the problems in the middle east. That problem is Iran and Syria, it is also Russia the 'behind the scenes' enemy.

That being said, this war is no longer a mistake! It is if we cut bait and run, it's not if we see it through until a sensible resolve is brought to the table. Seeing the arrogance of the Iranian government and it's religious leaders, I believe it can not end amicably. It surely has become more complicated with Iran building a nuclear facility along with the threats it has already made regarding Israel ! It has become most evident that Iran not be allowed to complete it's nuclear project. If it won't dismantle this project peacefully, than the only alternative is to destroy it through military means.

Iraq has become a pawn in this whole scenario. Iran is the steering committee on where the war is fought and how it is fought. The US has become a goat being led around to battles and logistics that are decided by Iran. This must stop. It can only stop when the politicians take a back seat to our military leaders. This war, if it is to end and brought to a logical conclusion can now only be won, militarily !

We are liberators. We stamped out an evil dictator who performed insane atrocities on the world and terrorized even his Arab neighbors. I think Bush went the wrong way about starting the conflict which is why he lost the support of the rest of the world community with a few exceptions. People deserve freedom. Including the freedom to make statements like yours without threat of incarceration or punishment.

I don't agree with the war as it has played out, but I still think it is the right thing today. If we had the backing of the world community, I believe we should liberate the remaining countries.

A Very Liberal Democrat (Not all democrats opposed the war)

The war removed a sinister dictator. One the suppressed and killed his citizens. Saddam admitted to WMDs..we have found some and some labs. He had plenty of time to move them or hide them. We are still finding complete cities and civilizations, hidden in the desert for thousands of years. So why not WMDs?
A lie is not telling the truth...our intelligence was off, and so was the rest of the world's..that is not a lie...that is telling what you know at the time.
The best reason for going there is evident...No further attacks on our soil.......and the rebuilding of a country that so desperately needs it.

I think in the beginning it was a case of doing the right thing for all of the wrong reasons, (WMD's, which we didn't find versus removing a corrupt dictator, which we did.) The biggest problem was a lack of long term thinking back at the beginning. Ever since the capture of Hussein, it's been nothing but a series of bad policies regarding what we're going to do next, and I think we owe it to the Iraqis to fix our screw-up before we leave.

I think the whole war in Iraq is based on a lie. King George II is to stubborn to admit he got us into this war based on bad intel. Our soldiers have never had a clear mission. There was never a real plan for what was supposed to happen and how it was going to end.
Until we have solid evidence that Iran is threat to our security we need to stay out of there.
Our government needs to remember that the military is made up of REAL people who bleed REAL blood. They aren't toys to play with.

You will always find those with pro or con replies to your question.

In my own opinion I blame that fact that the terrorists throughout the middle east and Iraq have declared war against us.

Our problem is we fail to see the seriousness of this declaration and quickly forget who threw the first bomb in New York City on 9/11 when approximately 3000 innocent men, women, and children were killed by these thugs.

Our country has simply taken the "war" to Iraq to make our own streets safer to walk upon!

We are falling for the propaganda disseminated by the terrorists. They have succeeded in convincing the public here that we are fighting an illegal war so that "public opinion" will dissuade our efforts in eliminating the real time threats against our own country. What better way to get us out of their hair!

Hopefully, people will open their eyes and LOOK at what the terrorists have done and continue to do that our media fails to cover leading us to believe that things are fine when they're not!

Personally, I have no intention of forgetting those who've given their life on 9/11, nor those who've fought in battle, to give us our freedom to express ourselves in forums like this. Let the terrorists have their way....forget Yahoo Q&A!

Best wishes!

I think the war is totally unnecassary. Because Bush only said the US is at war with Terrorism, but there is no evidence that saying that Iraq is involve in any terrorism act that cause harm to the US. It was suppose to be at war only with Taliban in Afghanistan since they are the one who cause 9/11. I think it is wrong to go war in Iraq. What role that they pose in any terrorism act?

Bad intelligences does not constitute a lie. Let's get that much
straight right now.

And, there is no real proof that it was faulty.

I know, no WMD's have been found.....YET.

That's a big bloody dessert over there.

Prove that there are no WMD's over there. You CAN NOT. So
do not say it was a lie if you can't prove your accusation. The
burden of proof lies squarely on your shoulders as the accuser.

Sorry, that does not really answer your question. I got caught
up with some of the other answers.

Iraq should have been Iran. Iraq could have been beaten into submission through political and other forceful ways but Iran has always been a threat, is even a bigger threat today and will be forever.

I feel that you should only go to war with a country that poses an immediate threat to you. Therefore, Iraq was wrong because they posed less threat to us than most Middle-Eastern countries. There were no WMDs, at least not to the degree that Bush stated there was. I am not against war, I am against war that can't benefit either sides. Wars that can't be won or lost by either side because they are fighting for different reasons. You can't put a military against a religion, then to us they are terrorists and to them, we are. And neither side is willing to give in to terrorism.

The US is a worse country for going over there without being provoked in any way. The rest of the world looks at us as an uncontrollable force. The Iraq war is going to be the ultimate downfall of the US.

Iraq is a worse country because we tore them down and don't have their help in rebuilding. Iraq will never be rebuilt to the point where it was before we went over there. Their citizens will never be able to get along without the fear of being blown to bits.

The world is worse for us going over there and the US isn't any safer than it was on 1/1/02
