My husband is not fussed when it comes to leisure so I would like to take our children away for a weekend when the sun comes out. Can anyone suggest somewhere suitable IN THE UK that a late teens girl, a pre-teen boy and their hip mum could enjoy. We would get there by train and I would not be doing any driving. A three star hotel would also be nice.

Torquay. It's a town that "lives" even if it's raining. It's a conurbation with Paignton where there is also some 'night life'.

Plenty of hotels.

It's a doddle to reach by train.
When you're there You can catch a connecting service to Paignton (worth a visit in its own right) and change for the South Devon railway preserved steam line to Kingswear. Catch the connecting ferry for a decent half day in Dartmouth.

Look up Devon tourist info web site.

York is really nice for a family break. Went loads as a kid and always enjoyed.
If you want to venture further, Glasgow is a great city break - good shops and restuarants (plus most of our museums are free!)
