I went to the chiropractor for back and rib pain. He took X-rays and my spine was out of alignment. I've been there 5-6 times and am no longer having pain. When I went the past couple of times, my back didn't even crack when he tried to crack it. I went yesterday thinking it would be my last appointment because he told me the last time that it would be the last appointment and after 5 minutes he says he wants to see me again on Friday (the appointment was on a Monday) and that he wants to stretch the appoinments out longer now (I was going twice a week). Is this normal or is he just trying to get more money out of me? I really can't afford to keep going so much especially if I'm not in any pain.

Yes this is normal. Your back won't crack every time. They are building up the muscle groups to hold your bones in the right place. It depends on you whether you want to invest in it now, or take the chance that your body will revert to how it was before. If you aren't having any pain, then consider how much you want to pay. It's like anything else...once you feel better you think you don't need it and then you can go back to where you were before. But it doesn't happen that way with everyone. I have a lot of respect for them because they continue on and treat the whole person rather than the symptom by masking it with drugs.

If he said that you are aligned there is no reason to return. If on the other hand the adjustments are not all holding there is reason.

other good info - Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

NO If your back isn't hurting you don't need to go back to him until your back gives you trouble again. 5 or 6 times is long enough He told you that would be your last visit. I assume that everones spine gets out of aliment. Mine does and I go 3 trips to the chiropractor. They will make More appointments as long as you let them. Tell them that you will call to make an appointment. That is what I tell the sectary to the chiropractor I use.
the sectary told me that my chiropractor wants me to come at least 3 times or as long as I am having pain, and if I don't have any pain wait & call back later to mke an appointment when I do.

Anybody could try to "rip you off," chiropractor or not. If you aren't sure that you want to continue going, you don't have to schedule another appointment just because he wants you to. If you are concerned as to whether or not there is still a problem, seek a second opinion.
