That is hard to say. The good points are that you may save money, and find a rare car. Call the seller and get photo's of the car, and ask for details, and the history of the car.

Friend of mine bought 2 cars from E-bay and was happy with the results. He flew into Buffalo, NY and the seller met him at the airport and had arranged for the transfer, had the car washed and full of gas with a fresh tuneup and it all went smoothly. So the next day, he was on the road heading home.

I've bought several vehicles from E-bay Motors and got what I consider good buys on all of them. The key is lots of pictures and if possible seeing the vehicle before hand. Check the seller for bad feedback. Ask the seller for some personal information about himself. Take everything with a grain of salt and consider if you think the seller is honest and the price good.
Vehicles I've bought, a 1995 Chevrolet 4wd Silverado pickup, a 1995 S-10 4wd pickup, a 1993 Cadillac, a 1967 Plymouth Satellite needing restored, a 30,000 mile 1966 Plymouth Satellite with a 383 and four speed and a 1942 GPW which is similar to CJ-2 Willy's Jeep but was made by Ford.

It's a good idea, but it's a risky idea.

Unless the seller of the vehicle lives within driving distance from you, I wouldn't go for it. You should always SEE the car in person prior to buying it for obvious reasons. I have learned through experience that the photos usually don't do it justice.

Ask the seller for the VIN of the car, and run it through Carfax.. this is imperative.

Also, before purchasing (If you decide to go for it) be aware that you're probably going to be responsible for shipping charges if the car is too far away to go pick up.

Ebay's fees will go against the seller, don't worry about those.

Just do your homework and think about it carefully. If it's a bad deal, or a lemon, you will go through hell in order to resolve the matter!

Good Luck!

Bought a truck (1962 Ford Econoline) off Ebay. It was in New Jersey, at the time I was in Louisiana. Paid $850 for shipping via car carrier. Got what I paid for!! Love the truck!! If you want, goto Yahoo Custom Autos and take a look. Its the only orange "62 EconoMine" on there.

buying cars on ebay can be really tricky... my husband bought a 1972 chevrolet chevelle malibu from pennyslvania, we live in new york... he got it for $2,500, 60,000 original miles on it... GORGEOUS... 4 doors which is rare... transaction went very smoothly... he bought it in 2004... and hasn't had any problems with it... but on the other end of the spectrum... we bought a 1980 chevrolet full size blazer from michigan in 2005 for $500... and when we went to get it we found out that the guy had lied to us... he told us that the rockerpanels were solid... we got there and they were barely hanging on... half of the floors were gone from rust... it was a major peice of crap... we ended up putting more money into it than it was really worth... just to have to scrap it after owning it for only 2 months... so it's really a toss up... you should make sure to check out the persons feedback... and what they have sold in the past... if they usually sell car parts and have excellent feedback... they's be a better bet than the person who usually sells barbies and has horrible feedback... i hope this helped ouy out some... happy buying...

well, I bought my car on ebay on Nov.2005 and I'm still driving it. I'm not going' to change it in next 1-2 years.
you have to be very careful, look at what you are about to buy hundred times before you make any decission. and remember, you are not buying a picture! never pay before you actually see what you buying. I flew to my dealer and drew 1,600 mi. try to not arrange any shipping of your car, just go and pick it up.
