I agree! I live in So. CA and the "people" down here expect/demand everyone to speak Spanish. I don't and I don't want to learn (protest!). They MUST learn English. They also shouldn't invade our country!!!

[Hey, "Alma V" we don't have to learn Spanish, this is America and the language is SUPPOSE to be English!!]

Many times the Hispanics here don't understand or speak English when it suits them. My dad says they just feel more comfortable speaking Spanish but I think it is more likely when they don't want to comply they pretend they don't understand (e.g., a lady sat on my feet at Disneyland while I was saving a space for the parade. She PRETENDED she didn't understand me when I told her to get off my feet - I heard her speak English later - she lied!)

These are not racist comments. They are my observations after living in an area with LOTS of legal and ILLEGAL people that are mostly from Mexico. (I hate having to be so careful about my words so I don't offend someone.)

I agree with crazybird. I think this country is going crazy sometimes. My fiancee is from Croatia, and has only been in this country 5 years. Even though he emigrated legally , he had to pay over $3000 to get here and pay back (on payments that were reported on his credit report) his plane ticket to a Catholic agency. He had an INVESTMENT in coming here and learning the language and customs. Unlike the sneak-ins from across the border. People cannot believe the English he has acquired in such a short time. He works at a factory which has a 80% Spanish labor force. (He's the token "white boy". )He is appalled that many have been here over 25 years and still can't speak or read English, and have no interest in doing so. .There is a "union" at his work that is represented by one of" their own," that does nothing for the workers and everything for the employer ,but because the union representative is Latino, they all vote for the contract, because they have CHOSEN to remain IGNORANT.They are fond of saying that the United States is a nation of immigrants, and I agree, but, back then the new immigrants assimilated into the new country and LEARNED THE LANGUAGE, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

I agree and completely understand your frustration. But at my children's school they discontinued teaching spanish because of 'lack of funding', and they will not discuss it with me. That makes it seem like they are deliberately keeping our children from being competitive with the illegals. Of course you might can guess that the funding for hispanics here has not been decreased. In fact, nearly every time I read my newspaper there is another article about some kind of 'help' that only they are eligible to receive. The newest being a $2500 grant for home improvements or down payment. Do you see why mostly hispanics get HUD homes now?

Being bilingual is a choice, not a requirement. As far as I know, both Spanish and French are offered in public schools, and kids have a right to choose which language they want to study. Are the ones who pick French going to be criticized or considered to be at a disadvantage? Yes, it would be beneficial to your daughter to learn Spanish, but no one has the right to force it upon her. If Spanish speakers choose to live in the US, they should learn English and not expect everyone to cater to them.

I have to strongly disagree with Velma. BI-LINGUAL does not mean MUST SPEAK SPANISH. Whether it be for the Cubans or Mexicans or whoever else won't learn ENGLISH. Bi-lingual means the ability to speak 2 different languages. Most of our students take some foreign language classes in school. In most colleges it is required that you have atleast 2 years of a foreign language. Now if I'm going into medicine...Latin would be my choice. If I'm a Russian history major...Russian might be nice. If I plan on being a big business mogul maybe it might be better to learn Japanese or Chinese. Maybe I'd like to go to Africa and work. Spanish isn't anything I would ever want to learn. It is NOTHING in the educated or business world. There are 100's of other languages.....I shouldn't be forced to learn Spanish to work and live in my own country because there's a load of die-hard Spanish speakers that refuse to learn the language of this country. If bi-lingual is so great....then learn ENGLISH. It will get you further than Spanish ever will. If Spanish is so darned important...then move to a Spanish speaking country and live off their tax payers! Let them spend the money to educate your kids. It's obvious they don't want to be a part of this country! They want to change it. And they are keeping our US citizens out of work who most likely are "bi-lingual" but their second language just isn't Spanish. Just like the other poster.....they are taking tax money for our childrens education and taking it from them for all the "special" programs and benefits for Spanish speakers. Putting them further at a disadvantage all on MY DIME! "Special" programs for "their people".....I'm so sick of it I could scream! They come here...take and take and take.....the LEAST they can do is LEARN ENGLISH. They aren't wanting "equality" or a "fair shot"...they are doing everything in their power to eliminate any real competition from any other group of people but their own. They literally RUN PEOPLE out of their homes and towns to make it just a "Spanish" area. It doesn't take a brain child to see the game. They aren't interested in "catering" to ANY OTHER group or race of people but their own. They could care less if any of our kids speak Spanish just as long as they don't have to learn English. Bi-lingual is just an excuse. We have young adults here who made it through our so-called no child left behind system that still need a translator. They still can't muster a sentence in English. So it's more than obvious that this "bi-lingual" education doesn't work. Not to mention the tons of other immigrants who come here who learn English and now they're expected to learn Spanish too? Get off you lazy butts and learn English or go back from whence you came. The time of catering to your people is done. You can't tell me a person who's been here 25 years can't muster "thank you" or "excuse me". They got WE DEMAND down though......

you have the right to think like that, however if you live in Miami Florida you need the spanish to understand the cubans no the mexicans, so you better get your facts straight they don't want you to change your language to "mexican" they are trying to give your daughter the opportunity to become bilingual don't you think is a good and smart choice? you could think that if you speak spanish in this country you're mexican but that only shows the level of education that you have.

money makes the more suitable international spin. Economies administration "the most excellent" international locations on earth, and curiously, the most excellent united states is u . s .. it truly is likewise the country the position money is prized peculiarly else. the authorities can do little to intrude with prevalent and rising markets. opposite to what you would possibly want to study, the right-wing isn't the purely foyer at the back of preserving firearms. Firearms are an finished market in u . s .; jobs and lives (sarcastically) are depending on its survival. i'm no longer helping the NRA or something the following, merely giving clarification why no longer something seems to regulate. Plus i'm British, and that i might want to be horrified if guns were bought legally the following. besides the undeniable fact that the argument i have made above by no potential seems to upward thrust up inspite of being the usual reason human beings will continually have guns. As has been stated before, guns are a difficulty in Britain too. they are merely received from unlawful elements, same to unlawful drugs. It’s the way of the international regrettably: if there’s a call for, then finally, there’ll be a grant.
