I have a 2.5 yr old who ive recently been trying to potty train. It is going really well but something thats worrying me is the amount of dirty nappies/diapers he has if he is not at home to be with no nappy on. It is now 3.35pm in the afternoon and already he has had 3 dirty nappies, this is becoming quite tiresome as it seems to be he always has a stinky bum! Is this normal?

This is pretty normal for him, he does eat a lot of fruit (apples, oranges, grapes, bananas mostly) and veg although today he hasnt had crisps, yoghurts and soup and its pretty much still the same.

It's not that it's NOT normal, it's just that it is a little on the excessive side...... but the answer to that could very well be his diet. Is this an EVERY day occurrence? Lots of fruit and fruit juices could be the start of your culprit. I have a 2 year old daughter and her BM's are typically once to two times a day. On days she eats more grapes or apples or blueberries, I notice those are the days she may have two dirty diapers.

Another thought though is: since he knows you are trying to potty train him, he may be holding his BM because he's afraid to do that 'job' on the potty. Holding it in will bind him a little more than usual and maybe it's taking him those extra dirty diapers to get it all out.

Now to really reply to the numerous dirty diapers you seem to endure, I honestly think you should discuss it with your pediatrician. I personally don't think he should be having that many soiled diapers. Tell your doctor what kind of diet you tend to give baby and see if he feels that the dirty diapers are a normal sign or a sign that something more could be going on.

Good Luck.......got any clothes pins laying around for your nose protection????? Kidding!
