I cut my index finger pretty badly a few days ago. I have not gone to the Dr. for two reasons, no insurance and the cut runs from the top of my finger down the side of my fingernail-even if it needed to be stitched there is nothing to sew it to. I am keeping the wound clean and full of Neosporin. I have also had a butterfly closure on it, but I cannot keep a bandage on it. Does anyone know the best way keep this covered?

The easiest way to keep a fingertip covered is to use two bandages. Put on over the top of the finger, and then another around your finger. If you feel you need to have a butterfly bandage to keep the wound closed, you can put that on first. Keeping your finger dry is important. If you get the bandages wet, change them out.

Sounds painful. Good luck, I hope you heal quickly.

I wouldn't "fill it with neosporin" You have to keep it clean but it's not going to dry up and heal together if it's full of cream.

Is it a think cut, like a paper cut, or deep and wide? If it's thin, you could try stuff like "Dermabond", "liquid bandage" or even krazy glue (my doctor recomended this to me). This is, if it's stoped bleeding. This makes a better seal then a regular bandage.

If it's really deep, you might NEED stiches to close it up. You could try pulling the skin really tight and then pulling it closed with a regular bandage and leaving it on.

I don't know if you can get these in the US but go to the chemist (drug store?) and ask for a tubular bandage that would be small enough to fit your finger and ask them how to attach it. Or try this, slide the bandage over the finger until it reaches the bottom then twist the top and pull remainder over, hopefully you have purchased enough length to cut the remainder in half lengthwise and tie around your wrist. You will need enough to be double the length of your finger plus enough to go from the base of your finger to around your wrist with enough to tie it off. Hope this helps. (put some cotton wool over the wound with some antiseptic cream on it first) Good luck

clean apply a bandage, and use a finger condom to keep bandage in place and keep it dry. Until it starts to heal then take the bandage and condom off and let the air get at it.

you can buy bandages specifically for fingertip and knuckle areas. Check with the pharmacy.

If you had gone to you ER, they prob wouldn't have tried to stitch it. They would prob use glue with a small bandage.
