I worked around this specific product in the cable business for a couple of years. I do have a smattering of information on the subject personally but would be doing you an injustice if I were wrong. So, I'll recommend a couple of WEB sites that can get you going in the correct direction:

Atlantic-cable.com (a history of the cable manufacturing and implantation in the sea)
Remember, this is a start. Or on your browser use 'cable manufacturers', this will get you in the ballpark.
