New Yorkers are far and away worse than any others I have encountered. NJ drivers are actually pretty nice. I grew up in MA and then later moved to NJ so I have seen a few different ones. I frequently drive from NJ to MA, passing through NY, CT, RI and finally into MA. The further south you go in NJ, the more courteous the drivers are. North Jersey has too many New Yorkers. They aren't bad in terms of driving skill, they are just rude and impolite. They NEVER yield when they are required to , they sit in the left lane and refuse to let anyone pass. They ride your bumper even if you can't get out of thier way.. They are just rude inconsiderate drivers.
I am sure there are probably a few nice ones out there.. But NY has more than it's share of rude ones.

First let me defend NJ drivers. What most people don't realize when they criticize NJ drivers is that they (the people complaining) are probably on the NJ turnpike, which is the most heavily traveled highway in the country and is used by drivers up and down the entire east coast. So you can't really say that because drivers on the Turnpike can't drive it must be Jersey Drivers. WRONG.
I've traveled through most of this country and, in my opinion, the worst drivers are in Nashville. New York takes a close second place as being the worst with Boston trailing in 3rd place.

New Jersey drivers may be bad, but nothing compared to drivers in Boston. It's like taking your life in your own hands. The streets are bad, people don't watch out for pedestrians and lights. As most streets are one way you find people going the wrong way as they get frustrated, and it doesn't help that you have the T running trains above ground, right across main streets and cars don't always know where to stop before getting hit by on oncoming subway. More like a video game than really driving. Your license comes at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box. In surrounding states bad drivers are called Massholes.

Jersey drivers in Florida are the worst!
Anyone is Florida is the worst- because we all have our own area-specific understandings of each ohter.
There are so many poeplke from so many places in Florida that it's hard to sort anyonr out, and get a constant basis for guessing what peoplke will do next!
Try defensive driving in THAT mix-up!
PS Downstate New York Dirvers ROCK!
They are rude, lude, with a mean 'tude, and that's the only way to survive in a semi-conrete jungle.
You gotta be fast, you gotta be slick, and you GOT to rise to the top.
Live someplace urban, babe.
Upstate New York drivers make little sense. What's a turn signal?
And why stop before the stop line when you're going downhill in two feet of blizzardous snow? You could miss the fun of creaming someone whenyour brakes fail!

Well...I thought I was until I moved to the state of Michigan and realized they're all worse than me (if they're not, they aren't Michigan natives). Florida drivers are downright scary. In Arizona, half the drivers on the roads are aliens.
But...back to me...I thought I was bad until I saw something on some show on discovery or TLC...this chick had been in I think 26 accidents in just a few years' time. She gave up driving and got a bicycle and spilled that a couple of times.
I have to laugh at what Future F1 Star said - my boyfriend's sister lives in Atlanta and drives an SUV...and he has informed me (I'm a skittish passenger) to never get in a vehicle with her driving...she will give me a full head of gray hair (should I survive the ride).

Oklahoma drivers are the absolute worst. They all have either new, really nice cars that they drive to slow or they have beat up old chevy's and still think they can pass other cars. I can't number the times I have been late to class and have been trying to get around these big ol' trucks that are siting in both lanes, not allowing anyone to pass.

I have driven in many different states. I live in L.A., my mom's family lives in N.Y. and my sister Montreal. What I have found is that no particular location, race or gender has a higher percent of bad drivers, BUT Yuppies who hold cell phones, shave, put on make-up while driving are a big danger. People in expensive cars seem to drive like they are the only people on the road, and finally, people in big raised-up pickup trucks seem to prove their manhood by driving crazy.

Having driven all over the country for a living, I can tell you without any equivocation that the absolute worse drivers are Americans with drivers licenses.

I'm inclined to say Florida drivers. Whenever I'm visiting there, I'm always reminding myself that to them, a red traffic light is only considered a suggestion.
