I have as good a time here as I do by throwing peanuts at zoo chimps.

The point is to communicate your viewpoint and your knowledge to the asker.
There will always be multiple viewpoints , agreements and disagreements. Reality is changed and established by agreement.
But truth is what is true for you, what you know, based on YOUR observation and experience.
Just because some other viewpoint disagrees with yours it doesn't have to effect or compromise what is true or real for you.
Unless you allow it to. Invalidation of anothers point of view is a pretty low emotional response to communication. Just rise above it. Communication is a universal solvent. If someone is trying to shut you up, the answer to to communicate even more!

Well, as someone else pointed out, what effect on your real life do the "thumbs down" have? I've gotten "thumbs down" in the beauty & style section for answering a question about makeup tips with colors someone else apparently didn't like. Why does it matter that you got "thumbs down"?
Additional note: I only give "thumbs down" to answers that don't actually answer the question, or in the beauty & style section, which may cause someone to damage his/her skin/hair/body.

If thumbs down upset you so much, don't answer any more questions. Why does a thumbs down mean you are treated as evil? Maybe it means someone doesn't agree with you. Is that so wrong? I honestly hope this is the biggest problem that you have in your life.
May God Bless you.

People can ask a question, but if they get an answer they don't like, they pretend that they haven't heard the answer, or pretend it's not there. They ask pointed questions, geared towards getting a specific answer, and then give thumbs-downs to anyone who doesn't give that answer.

People just scan the answers for code-words that resonate with their programming, and give thumbs up or down based on that.
Hence "Christians" look for anything that sounds like dogma, specifically the dogma of their own particular cult of Christianity (nothing's more hilarious than when the Pentecostals start attacking the Mormons - or whomever - for apostacy). Meanwhile "atheists" look for destructive criticism (on the R&S board).
It should go without saying that very few people on either "side" have the flimsiest notion what they're talking about.

How do you know who is giving you a thumbs down? It could be anybody. I am a Christian and rarely give a thumbs down.

How do you know you're getting thumbs down from Christians? I only give thumbs down to people who are really ignorant in their answers sometimes...not to people who sincerely think differenly from me.

Who says it's a never win situation.
Non-believers and atheists on a regular basis don't understand their own argument sources.
They're still harping on EVOLUTION when the distinction is RANDOM vs CREATION
The primary general concept of EVOLUTION is self-evident as the CHURCH has EVOLVED over the last 5,000 years
But that doesn't mean the church RANDOMLY CAME nor does it mean it came from a monkey!
I have yet to see a monkey perform a ritual, make fire to light a candle, make a candle, write a book.
