Does the United States recognize other marriages that happen outside of the US? If so, then they should recognize gay marriages too.

A marriage that happens for immigration purposes is called "fraudulent" and no, the US should not recognize them.

Regarding gay marriages per se, the US would have to recognize gay marriage first.

NO! They aren't legal here. It would be an excuse for Americans to go to another country, get married and come back saying "we are married! Accept it!"
