How are they alike and different?

well, the first big difference that comes to mind is that in high school you HAVE to attend. in college most professors don't care if you come to class or not, they still get paid no matter if you pass or fail. that's why so many freshmen flunk out. they don't have self discipline to go to class, do their homework and act responsibly.

In college, it is assumed that you will attend classes--in high school, attendance is often mandatory.

In college, it is assumed that you are a self-starter in getting work done, most of which is due only at the end of the term--high school usually has several papers, etc, due during the term.

In college, you are expected to understand what is taught--and it is on your shoulders to find out what something means if you don't understand it.

Usually in college the studies done are more sophisticated-for example, your history term paper must be longer, have a thesis supported by several original sources as opposed to secondary sources.

What is similar with both of them is that the techniques of study are basically the same. If you've learned how to study in high school, you'll find college relatively easy.

Generally, a college class is the same as a high school class, except that the subject matter is covered much faster. For example, a college math class covers in one semester what is covered in two semesters in high school. Second, you are expected to work much more independently in college. When class begins it is assumed that you have completed all of the course work up to that point and no leniance is made if you haven't.

In my experience, High School classes were dull, had little content and were taught by people who should not be allowed in front of a classroom. In contrast, I found college classes to be engaging, informative, and (for the most part) taught by people who had a solid understanding of the topic.

There is really none. When you go to college be in for a shock.
You are really completely on your own. There is no one to make you study. No one to get you up in the morning. You are totally responsible for you, for your grades, and for completing assignments on your own.
In High school, at least you have parents and teachers who do remind you to turn in assignment. You may have someone there to wake you up in the morning, to make sure you get to classes on time. But if you go away to school you are on your own.
You have to learn how to be a responsible adult. So good luck.
