First I want to CONGRATULATE you on your dedication to these children and your wife!!! :) It takes a very strong minded man with lots of patience, love & intellect beyond words to take on such a huge responsibilty!!! Now... Hun, why dwell on the possibility of splitting up??? There is no need to put such stress on yourself, just concentrate on making a loving, healthy and happy home for you, your wife and your 4 loving children, that right now should be your main goal!!! I wish you the best of luck, and if something negative should arise, sit with your partner and communicate!!! That is a powerful tool! Communication and the ability to trust each other!!! With this under your belt, you will definitely make a wonderful life together!!! God Bless!!!

If u do split up, no u won't have any "legal" rights over them, unless u did adopt them, but hopefully she is the type of woman that would allow u to still have a relationship with the children, considering u will be the only father that they will know. Right now u should concentrate on your marriage, and how to make it stronger so u don't have to think these negative thoughts. A biological father has to have no contact with the children for at least 2 years before u can adopt without consent from them, so just give it time, build your relationship with them, be a loving husband, and u won't have to worry about your marriage falling apart. If for some reason in the end u split up, if she is a good mother she won't take your love away from her children just because it didn't work out between u and her.

No not really mate. As men we have very little rights in matters like this. So much for equality. You say the subject of adoption falls on deaf ears. Are you talking about your wife ? If so you need to talk to her properly, why is she not keen for you to go ahead with the idea. There seem to be underlying issues here and you need to be honest with each other and sort them out. Good luck, there aren't many decent blokes like you out there.

I'd like to echo previous posts, congratulating you. You don't say how old her children are. Hopefully, they'll be young enough to appreciate the fact, in years to come, it was you, and not their natural father, that went through the good and bad things with them. I've got three step-daughters. The youngest was 14 when I came on the scene, so everything I did was wrong.
I'd forget the adopting thing, if I was you. I'm sure that, should the worse happen, they'll want something to do with you, anyway.
Enjoy them while they're young, mate!

Adoption could cause more damage than good. The best thing to do is try to come to an amicible agreement with your wife, that if anything should cause you to seperate that it will not affect you relationship with the children. Like a pre-nump without the lawyer scumbags

No - unless she wants you to adopt them, there is nothing you can do. Don't keep on thinking about splitting up - keep your marriage stable and loving, then it won't happen.
