i notified the police and made a report(big deal) and they said if my daughter did not wipe them fingerprints off, the police possibly could have dusted them

it really is not that bad of an area...it's mostly middle class people but there are a few punks in the neighborhood

It sounds like it is the same punks doing this! Demand your local police that they need to patrol the area more often! Make sure you don't keep anything valuable in your car, keep it locked at all times, and make sure to set the car alarm on! What I do, (We had a car stolen from our house 4 years ago) I keep my outside lights on my house all night. Thiefs like dark areas! We put the energy saver bulbs in so we didn't see a hike in our electric bill! Good Luck!

Well even if they had dusted them looking at or accidentally (which is all the assertion you could make from simple fingerprints) touching a car is not a crime.
Lock your car and you will be as safe as an driver in the area, also be thankful that a 4 year old taurus is not a hot car to be stolen.

There are a myriad of responses here with very good responses.
Your BEST bet is to take the steps to make your property less "appetizing" to the thief!
Using cost effect motion lighting around the driveway and house is one of the better products on the market!
A video camera with motion detector focused upon the car will also help when provided to law enforcement investigators.
A call to the local police chief about increased patrol coverage and a good neighborhood crime watch program are also essential to a safe and crime free environment.
A sign in the yard with "Caution Video Surveillance in Progress" will deter thugs who can read!
Unfortunately, those of us in law enforcement can't be everywhere at one time and we do the best we can, however, those priority calls for help prevent overburdened departments from responding to the public needs as quickly as we wish we could.
It is my hope that your department attempted to "raise" the prints left behind so that they can identify any suspect caught doing these crimes!
Best wishes!

Get a dog and tie him to the car!!! Well it would work the dog would bark you would look. But that camera idea is a good one!! Dont leave anything in the car and put on the theft deterrent, go to radio shack and get a gps locator and put it in the trunk of the car under the carpeting and use that camera!!!

You are doing all you can it seems, I know it sounds bad from a Law Enforcement standpoint but you don't really want a cop on every corner either. Being that it is a Ford Taurus I think you are safe from it being stolen just don't leave anything in it you wouldn't mind losing.

I would definitely install a gps location system in my car... if its stolen, then you would find it anywhere and hopefully that would lead to capturing the burglar. The robber seems to be a small fry, no a bigshot, he/she only steals smaller stuff. The fingerprints on the car seem to me as evidence that the robber was looking for something to steal inside the car and not looking to steal the car itself.

Sometimes you've gotta do the police work yourself. We installed a mini camera and found out who our culprits were. We gave the video to the cops and the guys were caught within a week.

Depends on where you live actually. I recommend getting something like to CLUB as a deterrent also. Make it harder for them to steal it. I only said harder. If someone really wants it, there is nothing you can do to stop it!
