I completely agree with this quote. It takes a strong individual to stand by they believe in. You can be pushed down and torn down b/c you stand by your beliefs. You also have to be strong to know that validation does not come from other people, but only from yourself and that is the bravest of them.

It sometimes takes courage to stick by your principles, and follow your own conscience. Too often, it is much "easier" to cave into pressure from outside sources.

It refers to being true to one's self; to do what's right with no regard to the influence of other persons or circumstances. Of course, consciences today are so convoluted by modern values that they may not be reliable. Just look at the democratic party for evidence of this.
