Bloating, blood in stool, blood in vomit?

Help! Last night my friend had an incredibly upset stomach, and was running back and forth to the bathroom for four hours. Eventually there was blood in his stool. He then vomited twice and there was blood in it the second time. What is going on? Is this just a 24 hour virus? Or does he seriously need to go to the doctor right now? I told him to drink tons of water and stay warm...did that help at all?

first of all how old is your friend?? chances are it was just the effeccts of a bad stomach virus...idk about the blood in the stool/vomit though i never heard of that being a sign of gastroenteritis, but it is a sign of colon cancer, and colon cancer usually gives all those symptoms above...but still if it only happens in one day and then you just get better it might just have been a bad virus, and the blood might have either been ccaused by that or just by irritation from the diahrrea...(diahreah can do that)......but anyways if this persists your friend should visit the doctor, but even if it doesnt he should just go just for the fact that he vomited blood and saw it in his stool..goood luck

Your friend needs to be seen by a doctor NOW! Blood in the stool/vomit can be a sign of internal bleeding from various sources (ulcers, perforations, certain types of infectious diarrhea). He needs to be evaluated by a doctor to determine how much he has bled and where the bleeding is coming from as well as to be treated for this. It IS possible to bleed to death internally, depending on what kind of bleed he has. Get him to an emergency department as soon as you can!
