14 years ago, I got a very cute, noisy (such a loud purr for such a little scrap) little tom kitten. At six weeks old, he could fit in the palm of my hand.
We called him Jet because you just saw a black blur when the door was opened and he was ... well .... black.
Fast forward 14 years and the big lump is snoring away on the back of the settee as I type. "Jet!" Hah! Made him look.
Jet, it's short, it's snappy and everyone can spell it. Plus it rhymes with 'wet' and 'pet' which is handy if your children are asked to write a poem about their pet.

My cats are called Tobias (Toby), Sophie, Tigga and Morrissey (after the lead singer of the Smiths).
I always think it's good to have a unique name for your pet as a conversation piece. When people ask you what your pet is called and you say "Fluffy", it doesn't really provoke more than an "oh... that's nice!" ;-)
Do you have a hobby, favourite film or band? E.g. if you like hiphop, you could call him Fiddy! :-D If you like the Simpsons, you could call him Apoo, Homer, Bart or Seymore (haha, I'm kidding about that last one!)
Also, funny names like Smidge can be cool. I want to call my next cat Smidge hehe.

I ended up calling my little black kitten Poppy - because the fur on her nose looked just like the middle of those big red opium poppies!
