my partner brought our 3 yr old a playdoh set yesterday and she loves it, only we now got 1 big dark blob rather than 4 different colours haha rather than buying new colours every week I was wondering if anyone knew how to make it from home as I'm sure its pretty simple!
cheers

This links to several different versions, including peanut butter playdough, Kool-Aid playdough, and no-cook playdough. Personally, I'd go for good-tasting. When I was a kid, I always ate the stuff! LOL

Simple Playdough
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
6 tsp. cream of tartar
3 cups cool water
3 Tbsp oil
Food coloring
Mix dry ingredients in a big cooking pot. Blend liquids together in a bowl. Combine with dry ingredients and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat when dough pulls away from the sides of the pot and can be pinched without sticking (about 5 min.) Turn onto board or counter and knead until smooth play dough consistency. Store in an airtight container.

1 cup plain (all-purpose) flour
½ cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup water with food coloring added
1 teaspoon vanilla essence (optional but it makes the playdough smell nice!)
Put all the ingredients into a large saucepan, and stir over a medium heat until the dough forms into a ball. Allow to cool, and then knead until smooth.
Store in an airtight container

I had ur problem, we made it but it uses alot of salt and it makes their little hands feel really sore and dry. So I bought some more of the real stuff and now he is only allowed to play with one colour at a time to avoid it being mixed up.
Good luck in finding a recipe without loads of salt in it. Their is a recipe is on the Cbeebies website.

Hi there - yep making it is way cheaper and also, as your little one gets abit bigger its a good introdcution to helping out in the kitchen - my daughter loved it.
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons oil (eg. sunflower )
2 tea spoons of cream of tartare
chuck it all in a big saucepan add colouring that is safe for little ones and wont destroy your furniture! ;-) mix over low heat and it will bind and become dough.
keep it in the fridge wrapped in cling film.

Try mixing just plain corn starch and water. It's not the same conmsistency but makes some prety interestign stuff.

flour, salt, and water, but i can't remember the amounts. There is always trial and error to find the proper mixture. You may want to ask a teacher. i remember when i was i grade school and we made some in art class once.
