I owe taxes for 2004, 2005 and 2006. I filed my 2004 taxes but didn't mail in my portion of taxes which stated i owed, but I haven't gotten my 2005 and 2006 filed yet. Can I mail them in one by one or do I mail them in all together?

As difficult as it might be, I think you are probably better off going to one of the local IRS branches and deal with them in person.

During this busy season, there are so many things that can go wrong, even if you send them in in the right order. I know spending a time at an IRS office might sound too exciting for you, but in the end, I think you would actually save time - you can talk face to face and get their names written down on a scratch of paper. If the IRS calls later, just mention that you talk to Mr/s. such and such... etc.

Alternatively, there should be some local tax advocates in your area whom you can talk to and they can probably walk you thru the process. Good Luck!

You can either mail them one by one, or send '05 and '06 in the same envelope - I'd probably mail them separately, since one is late and one is on time. 2006, the one currently being filed for people filing on time, can be efiled, but not prior years.

At some point the IRS will contact you to set up a payment plan if you don't contact them about it first. Remember, interest and penalties are accumulating until you get the amounts paid off. For 2005, since you owe, you'll have failure to file penalties also, which accumulate monthly until you get it filed. Even if you can't pay the whole amount, filing at least stops some of the penalties from accumulating.

File them all separately.

Indicate Form 1040 (2004) Due on the front left hand corner of the envelope
Form 1040 (2005) Due, etc.

You should have filed an installment agreement with 2004.

Expect a warm letter from the IRS requesting penalties and interest for filing and paying late.

Mail them separately and in sequence by year just to avoid confusion. You will probably get a notice from the IRS that you owe interest on the late payments.

I would put them into separate envelopes and send them in at the same time.

Mail them separately.

If you mail them all at once, something will get messed up.
