i think so. all it seems to do is promote arguing and hate. and seriously, has a comment about religion ever swayed someones views one way or another on here? i doubt it. christians arent converting anybody and athiests aren't convincing anybody so they might as well get rid of all the discord and get rid of the section.

ok yeah the religion section has been a good resource for me in the past but i get tired of trying to ask a question about my faith to people of my faith and having someone come in and tell me to read the bible or what i believe is wrong. would it be a better alternative to have sections for seperate religions and one big debate section?

The religious section should be used for people to get answers about different religions that they are not familiar with. People who have a good knowledge of their faith should answer the questions.

No one should be making fun of anyone's beliefs or getting angry at them because of them. There is no absolute proof if there is a Creator or not and evolution doesn't answer everything, so everyone believes and has faith in something - even atheists.

Christians and Muslims believe that you have to believe what they do for eternal salvation - so for them to argue and try and convince someone is part of their faith. That doesn't make it hateful for them to try and convince someone to choose their faith, in fact it's the opposite. I have many Christian friends - including born again ones and they have never been disrespectful to me because I'm not convinced. When I have questions, the answer them and they pray for me - there is nothing wrong with that. I never attack their beliefs so they don't attack me.

I think the problems come from people who make fun of Christians for their beliefs and then they get offended and defensive (rightly so). People should ask questions that they are really looking for answers to, not questions aimed to irritate people who believe something different.

Well, it seems to be the most popular section, so obviously a lot of people would disagree with you. A person who doesn't like it could always leave it alone.
If you ask a question, you can't expect only those of your belief to answer. It's an opportunity for everyone to spout off. But you are perfectly free to ignore comments that you don't like.
On the other hand, it is sometimes instructive to see what other people are argunig, even in cases when they are totally irrational.

confident it would be helpful if extra contributors report the abusers and sparkling up this section. it would be a shame to do away with the section altogether because of fact all of us could make the main of actual debate, somewhat on faith.

HELL NO! Religion, and spirituality is an important aspect of our lives, and there isn't anything wrong with friendly debate. However, if someone is disrespectful, than they should have some kind of penalty.

Some progress has been made...IMO.

So if you don't like it and get nothing from being here...you could just leave the section.
