For me stress is caused when school work starts to pile up and then I have to balance soccer on top of that. The signs of stress for me start off...
1. can't sleep
2. bad mood and angry and/or start to cry
3. headache and shoulder pain.
4. Migraine, stomach ache, or other type of physical illness.
These signs prove I have it for real. And to get over it I have to priorities and give myself a break.

Stress can be caused by anything, and varies in severity. It depends on how well you usually handle it, what's causing it, and how much it interferes with your daily life.
Sign of stress are: irritability, feeling anxious (people with anxiety don't deal well withs stress, so these symptoms are often intertwined), weight gain, loss of weight, fatigue, insomnia, etc., especially if these symptoms are during an event such as a death, financial burdens, kid problems, etc.
If any of these symptoms prevents you from normally functioning, then you need to seek help from a doctor or therapist. A professional can help you manage it better.
I, personally, can get very stressed because of work. If I'm working on a project that's especially complicated (usually because of other co-workers), I will feel sick to my stomach and become very anxious and irritable. I'm usually able to unwind at home by talking about it with my boyfriend, or clearing my mind with Pilates or a bubble bath. Just find what works for you.

Go to www.about.com and check out the good articles on stress and stress management. Stress is basically our reaction to our environment, physical, mental and emotional. Too much stress can cause high blood pressure, reduce the blood flow thrugh arteries and thus affect heart health, increase the risk of strokes, make you gain weight or lose it.,,,
How you feel and how you react to your surroundings will tell you whether you have stress or not, apart from your doctor.
How to manage stress? Drink lots of water, do deep breathing, yoga, music, Reiki, diet, prayer, meditation, doing something that you really enjoy...
