They have big windows to lay in. Tons of toys and big cat houses too. When I let them out i stay right there. and its for only about 15mins.

& I DO NOT THINK LETTING THEM IN THE GARAGE IS CRUEL! NOTE I AM A SINGLE WOMEN. THERE ARE NO CAR PARTS, ANTIFREEZE, OR ANYTHING THEY CAN GET INTO or HURT THEMSELVES ON. JUST FRESH FOOD, WATER AND MANY MANY TOYS TO PLAY WITH AND CLIMB ON.

It all depends on what kind of house you live in I suppose, and if you live up to your name "Ms. Ganjasmoker" I hope the cats are near a window and not getting high, or then again........maybe not sharing is cruel.

I don't think it's cruel at all...I have one male cat and he stays inside all day. He even has his own room! We let him roam the house during the day but at night he sleeps in his room (which is also our computer room) which has a sofa he uses as a bed. We only keep him in his room at night because we tried letting him roam at night and he would jump on our bed sleep for a few hours get up come back and then around 4am want to play or eat.
Also we let him out in the backyard like you do but more often then once a month...one time we let him out there while we were doing other things next thing we knew he was jumping the fence while he was chasing a squirrel...so from now on we make sure we are near him while he's in the yard.

It is not cruel. It is actually much better to keep them inside. It avoids injury from being hit by a car or attacked by another stray animal. It also reduces the risk of infection and parasites. My girls have their own bedroom, a screened in porch so they can still enjoy the outside, and free roam of the house. They enjoy being inside as long as they have play room. Indoor cat's have a life expectancy of 2-5 years on average longer than an outdoor cat. A plus, if they have not been fixed you will not have any unwanted litters.

No, it's not cruel. My cat is kept indoors usually, and it sounds like your cats have much larger and nicer areas for them to hand around. Mine is only a townhouse, and there is no garage for them to play in. When my cat lived with me back in my parents' house, she would live both outside and inside, depending on her mood. If she spent a long time outside, she'd want to come in; and vice versa. Also, she likes to be near me, so I'm inside, she likes to be inside. I would say that your cats would like to be in the same space as you, so especially when you're home, they'd much prefer to be inside. Oh and did you know, indoor cats on average have longer life spans than outdoor cats? I think it's because outdoor cats may have accidents (e.g. get hit by a car) or contract virus/disease or get injured by other cats/animals.
Anyway, so it's absolutely fine to keep your cats indoors most of the time. It's also nice for them to be able to hang out in the yard now and then - they'll appreciate that too.

I have 2 cats that live inside. Before I got my cats I spoke to about 50 breeders of pedigree cats, and also several vets. I came to the conclusion that as long as there is plenty of space and toys and things to keep them occupied then they are fine. I would never have got mine if I had thought I was being cruel. We took in to consideration these things:
Car accidents
Foxes/other wildlife attacking them
Fighting with other cats
People poisoning cats outside
And we felt that keeping them inside was a safer option as it cuts out those dangers. Ours go to the vets every 6 months and the vet says they are a picture of health. If there was ever any change in that condition that proved that keeping them inside was detrimental to their health then I would consider letting them out, by until they can prove that keeping them inside is harmful then they will stay inside.

No Not at all there are many dangers out side the life expectancy of an out side cat is about 5 yrs because of these dangers I lost a beautiful cat to some roaming dogs it broke my hart so if you can keep your Kitty's in the house that is the best and safest place for them

I have 5 cats 2 of them love it outside but be careful they can get in trouble such as bad neighbors, cars and other cats. As for putting them in a garage thats cruel !!! There are many things that can hurtthem there. anti freeze drips on the floor smell sweet and can KILL them pretty fast if they lick it. Also be prepared for dead birds mice and whatever else they can catch. If they are declawed KEEP THEM IN

WoW those are some lucky cats, most cats are used to being in a house and usually when they do get left out they get pregnant or get hit by a car so its usually a good thing to keep them in a house but, it sounds like your cats are fine the way you been keeping them. I know if I was a cat I would love it.

Never allow you cats outside! Things can happen very fast and when you least expect it! They could jump the fence or another animal could get in. You just never know. You are doing the right thing keeping them inside where they will be safe. Outside is no place for a pet....

If you have had them and raised them inside then no it is not cruel but if you found them and they were already outside cats they may not like it very much.Cats that are raised inside do not function well being put out later because they are domesticated and not as wi;d as outside cats.It sounds like you are taking good care of them and giving them plenty of space so I think all is well.
