I work in a small business office with my boss (who is there every now and then) and two other women. One woman I absolutely love working with, but the other is very arrogant, cocky, and acts like she "knows it all" She is very rude to me, and expects me to do a lot of her work for her. The problem is, the woman that I like working with has been at this job for 25 years and doesn't want to deal with her. So she stays quiet about the situation. She doesn't want to get involved. Also, my boss likes this overbearing woman who is driving me mad. She likes her so much in fact that she just bought her a company car to drive around and pays her a hefty salary. I know this woman just brown-noses to get everything she wants. I'm afraid if I tell my boss how I feel, then she may look down on me or fire me because she "likes" this other woman better. This woman takes credit for a lot of the work I do, and noses through my stuff like she wants to catch me doing something wrong...

Your boss likes her because she is the "boss" when he is not around. She doesn't care what anyone else thinks, and she is probably very aware of how you feel about her, and therefore if I were you I'd watch it, because your boss doesn't care how she runs things, because she takes the burden off him, and likely your boss doesn't care if you get fired, because then this person will be able to hire the type of person she easily CAN get to do the tasks she wants you to.

The other woman who has been there 25 years has SURVIVED that long because she is obviously smart enough to keep her mouth shut and just do her work.

Not siding with her, but telling you how it is. There isn't room in some offices for people to "butt heads" like that, and usually the one with the power and backing wins.

You can state your feelings, you are certainly entitled to, and you are probably totally right about her, but you are taking a risk. It's sad but it's probably time for you to either fight and take the fall out or find something else to do elsewhere.

Since the company that you are in is soo small, and Unfortunately ran by women, and if the boss lady likes her, you are just going to put yourself in a hole if you say anything. I would just look for a new job and then leave and then in your resignition notice you can explain everything to her- By then she can't fire you but she will still know how you felt and the reason you left. Im sorry that its that bad for you-- Has the older lady been there a while? Maybe she's seen what the over-cocky b*tch of a co-worker has done to others in your position and she's trying to keep her job safe?
Just suck if up for now and look for a new job sweetheart!

Create a new e-mail account with her name on yahoo or something and send it to her work e-mail address all day with random messages. You could include links about being a know it all and a kiss up, and overbearing, etc. This may straighten out the problem a bit!

If not, it will drive her crazy having e-mails coming in to her from herself! Use the computers at your local library.

I agree with what EVE said.

Some bosses are not bossy enough, so they let someone else do their dirty work for them. It sounds like this battle axe you are working with is the "defacto boss", so watch your step.

Put a sheet of paper in your work.

"Dear Mrs. Blank, if you have a question about my work, come and ask me instead of rifling through my papers. I do have it organized and I do not appreciate the mess."

If you like your job, tolerate her. If not, look for another job.
