When he was 2 his mother was murdered and father in prison, all 19 children were put in foster homes, adopted, or in orpanages. Can't find records on birth mother at all or marriage records on their marriage. Need to find roots. He feels so lost. We have tried Ancestry.com found some on father, but none on mother, like she never existed. Police wouldn't even send him records of his mothers murder even though it was over 40 years ago. We have come to whits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have no money to afford lawyer or private detective. Thankyou.

Hey S L,

First, are you registered?

What is the DYFS Adoption Registry?

The Registry facillitates contact between birth family members and adoptees whose adoptions were processed by the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) or by its predecessor agencies: the Bureau of Children's Services, the State Board of Child Welfare or the State Board of Children's Guardians.

The Registry provides the following services:

* Registration
* Nonidentifying Background Information
* Limited Search Services
* Information and Referral
--- if not, see the first site. This is one step.

Perhaps one of the other Children will be looking and be registered also. Do you know any of their adopted names? Do you have the Birth Certificate of the person you are assisting?

New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services
State Registrar Search Unit
PO Box 370
Trenton, NJ 08625-0370
(609) 292-4087
Fax: (609) 392-4292

Go to a local library for the News about the murder.

Use the people finder sources for other Foster siblings.

I am assuming that since you have contacted police, you do have the right town/ county? The specific name of the father? As close as possible, the date of death?
Police may refuse to help, but there certainly should be news reports. I tried running the surname in ssdi, no luck .. maybe Horn is not the right last name?
For the moment, I'd run it like finding any other death or genealogy. Need more explicit details if possible.
I'd love to help... you can reach me via my profile.
