A tourist visit is for visiting a place say on vacation, usually it's valid for 30 days in most countries.
A transit Visa is normally valid for a few days, usually given out if you have a lay over for a day and have to leave the airport for accomodations.
Check the immigrations website of the country you are/want to visit and it will give more details for each.....how long they are good for, cost, how to obtain one depending on what country you are from, etc......

The difference is mainly the length of time allowed in the country. A transit visa allows you to enter the country long enough to catch the next connecting flight out of the country. The transit visa is rarely issued for longer than a day. A tourist visa is usually longer to allow you make a short term visit to the country. Tourist visits rarely allow you to conduct business, work, or study. They are typcially issued anything from two weeks to 90 days.

Not much different, tourist visa last longer normally 30days, transit visa is just for airport to airport, normally 1-2days. Well you could have both visas but still not going anywhere!
