Trivia:

The Darling Range escarpment is an ancient fault-line, which separates the younger sedimentary rocks of the Perth Basin from the ancient cratonic interior of the continent.

If you drive to Southern Cross (for example) you will drive up the Darling Ranges but you will not drive down the other side. All places east of the Darling Ranges are several hundred metres higher that Perth.

The most likely natural disasters in west Perth are severe thunderstorms. These would have produced large hail, flash flooding, very high winds and even tornadoes from time to time - but that is what they do anywhere. Winter is the main season for thunderstorms in Perth because in summer the air is too dry.

If you were looking at a more rural suburb or a bush setting east of Perth, bushfires could be a problem but they are not a problem in the coastal suburbs.

Perth does get the remnants of the occasional tropical cyclone but by the time they get that far south they have lost much of their intensiy and are mainly rain depressions.
