because the help that works at the day care gets paid for the day to be home (paid government holidays)...sorry, but it is a pain in the butt..i have three kids in daycare that cost me 300 a week (total) so on that day, I pay $60 for free!

Because you sign a contract for lets say 5 days a week. You pay that weather they go or not. You can find someone that will work for hour-hour and does not charge for days not there, but this is hard to find. No center will. They have bills to pay weather your child is there or not. They have the children longer in the summer, esp. the school kids

I use only the day care at work,

The workers deserve to get the day off paid, they earn it.

depends if they charge by day or by week. If by week, you'd pay regardless, shouldn't be charged if by day. It's like the hourly wage vs salary. Hourly wage gets paid only for the hours worked, while as the salary pays for the entire pay period, regardless how many hours worked.

I suppose because most people get paid whether they work on that day or not. I mean, firms don't deduct the day's wages from your paypacket, do they?
