Depends on the man and where he grew up, he could be Arab but has been in the US most or all of his life. Also depends on what standards he was raised and how adament he is about his culture and living by those standards. I am "assuming" that he is Muslim and not a Christian...... Regardless if he is trying to come off that it's his culture that he doesn't want you traveling I don't buy it, if that is the case then he shouldn't be "dating" you if you are dating in the sense that Americans know dating. The Arab culture does not let women travel by themselves, they travel with their husband or with other women only. There are a lot of unknowns in you relationship....... I have dated an Arab women who was/is Muslim, there are many cultural differences that will cause many problems if you are Christian. If you feel comfortable traveling by yourself then do so, otherwise you may be traveling with only him or not at all.

It would depend on the Arab man and how he feels about it. But I think the culture might be specially concerned about the safety and protection of women in general. Maybe this question shouldn't be in the mental health section--"societies and cultures" might be better.
