ignore us in favor of your own stereotypes. Why won't you listen? Some of you say "Muslim husbands will beat you for being on the computer" when this has absolutely no truth to it at all. Some of you say he controls everything, but he is to give all of the money over to this wife for it is she who does the shopping for the home and she is the queen of the home. He can't even tell her to cook and clean, as it is not her duty. So why do you still refuse to listen? We muslimahs are telling you everyday, but you ignore it and ask "why don't they speak out, they are so oppressed."

what do you see when you see me there
just standing with my hijab on my hair
do you think and afraid and alone
is it that you think my husband is in control
what ever the feelings they are so wrong
for i am free like a birds song
i cover my hair for the love of Allah
not to make others chatter
my faith is strong it makes me proud
that is why i scream out loud
im a muslim and so proud

im a muslim and so proud
so what do you see when you look at me
for i am strong and have a great will
im free with out a chain
my world is built from islam
that gift i was given in my hand
im not here to judge
so why do you stop and stare
do you think my heart is stone
and that i stand alone,
i have Allah within my heart
so no matter were i stand
you see,

all my sisters stand with me
all around the world i say to my sisters stand proud
stand strong
so maybe now when you stop and stare
you will see a diffrent view
im not suppressed or alone
i wear my hijab for Allah alone.

MAY ALLAH REWARD YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS

Look the Muslims have a huge problem with the radical side right now. There are hundreds of thousands at Hamas rallies, not a few. There are large crowds in the streets of Iran after Friday prayers EVERY week saying they want to kill westerners. I could go on and on. You can deny that fact all day, but these guys are going to start WWIII if the moderate side doesn't do something to stop them. I am not the one that says it is about Islam, they are. I just don't see any reason to not believe them.

I have only seen two Muslims that regularly speak out against it, and they both live behind bullet proof glass. You need to look at what is really happening and stop blaming those who notice. What have you done today to stop terrorism? All I am seeing is you trying to cover it up.

The trouble is people see one perspective and generalise that all members of that community are the same and there is no variation. Blinkered ignorence is all around us, I'm afraid. Good on you for being pround and strong in your faith. Tolerence and education are the key, as I'm sure you already know. Good luck in your quest to ensure people are aware of all viewpoints in Islam. I am in awe of your strength.

This is a statement not a question.

Your own book says that the husband can punish an unruly wife. A husband has NO business punishing a grown woman.

Why don't Muslim women LISTEN to your own book!

I've personally read from Muslim women who say the opposite:

Men tell Muslim women how to dress
Muslim women are uneducated
Muslim women are jailed for family failures

Every day in the news we see Muslim women all over the world covering from head to foot every inch of skin. When America freed the Afghan women, the first thing they did was shed the burkas and to go the salons.

In Saudi Arabia, a man is on trial for shooting a woman in the face (reason: she didn't cover it). He said he was obeying the Koran and would do it again. Thank Allah the Saudis are punishing the man.

So what are we supposed to believe? Women like you who have freedoms or women from other countries who don't?

HERE ARE SOME STATISTICS ON MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRIES:

The following countries have NOT signed the "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women" as of 2006:

Iran
Oman
UAE
Qatar

The following countries HAVE signed:

Kuwait
Saudi Arabia
Yemen
Egypt
Libya
Lebanon
Syria
Jordan
Bahrain

Overall a good showing from Muslim countries. The authors that I've read, however, are from some of these countries who HAVE signed, like Lebanon, but speak of women as if they're second-class citizens. One of them traveled to Israel, and it was like night and day to her. She learned to love Israel and hate all Muslims just on that issue.

i love the poem. i know how you feel. but don't even bother because in the qur'an it says that no matter how much we tell the non believers the truth they won't listen because God has closed their ears and eyes and so it's only up to us to be a good example with our actions and the way we talk to people. the only thing you're going to get here is more yelling and more insults. you're noly going to get more people against you. But remember that God is always watching and our hard work to be good people isn't going to go for nothing, no matter what the non-believers say. by the time the truth is out it'll be too late but we did our job. so just let it go....

The fact is most westerners want you to live the way you want, and that makes you happy. The thing that troubles us, is that large numbers of Muslims blame us for everything that is wrong, and swear to destroy us. This is the problem, not our attitudes.
Even this question is blaming us. When will this arrogance of Islam stop???

This is lovely!
Thank you for so eloquently expressing your thoughts and feelings! You rightly accuse some of us of judging and using sterotypes. On behalf of those of us who do that I apologize.

Forgive us, we do not understand.
We do not know you,
We are not use to seeing
you as you are, so we judge;
we imagine. Our imaginations
have run wild with us.
Forgive us for we do not know
what we are doing.

Welcome! Teach us of you
and your people, so there can be peace!

Shalom!

I'm sorry that people say things to you that are hurtful. It can be hard for people to understand a way of life that is very different from their own. Your poem is very pretty though...

What is your question?

If you want to post your opinions get a blog or something, this is not the place

But while we are using Yahoo Answers to post poetry, I'll share one of my favorites...

Allah loves green eggs and ham
Allah loves green eggs and ham
He'll eat them from a can
He'll eat them with the Taliban
Allah loves green eggs and ham
Sitting next to a fountain
Or hiding out in a mountain
Allah loves green eggs and ham
Ascending to a virgin filled heaven
Or carrying an AK-47
Allah loves green eggs and ham
Enjoying quiet time and silence
Or controlling women with violence
Allah loves green eggs and ham
Hiding out in a cave
Or rising up out of his grave
Allah loves green eggs and ham
