My family adopted a 7 month old beagle. We started crated training. We crate the puppy when our family is out of the house. Which is M-F 7:30am - 2:15pm. We take him out to piddle before he is crated...but, when he is crated...he howls, and cries...When we got home yesterday he deficated all over the crate. We have 5 members of the family who shower him with attention when he is not crated. I would also start to crate him at night, we woke this morning to find piddle in the living room, and on my sons bed. Any suggestions to make this training easier? HELP!!

I have done research online, about crate training. I leave the tv on in the family room where the crate is. He has a small kong, and a toy. When I adopted the puppy, the previous owner told me that he was crate trained. Are these accidents just separtation anxiety??

You need to be consistent..no showering him with love when he is outside the crate. He then will howl to get out and no work will be done.
Quality toys in crate. No water in crate, water should be given once every hour, or more for a quick lap. Food given in crate and feeding times. Dog should be let out every 30 minutes to establish a routine (you will know his pattern). Brought outside on a lead, no playing, business, ask the dog to pee-pee-or poo (the word you want him to know). Then right back in the crate. Ignore his protests...this may hurt you, but you want a good dog that you will not come to hate because he defecates everywhere.
Hang bells (that he can reach) on your back door. Swipe the bells with your hand, everytime he goes out...say OOOUUUTT, over emphasizing the word.
playtime is limited to 20 minutes three times a day. He will need to probably pee, up to 10-20 minutes after eating, and immediately after play.
Consistency, do not feel guilty..this is his job, he is looking to you for direction and guidance.
this will take roughly 5 days...Good Luck!

At 7 months, he should be able to make it through your day without going in his crate (assuming he doesn't drink the bowl of water right before being crated). The howling and crying are part of crate training. You can put the crate in one of the bedrooms with a family member at night and it might help. We have an 8 month old Pit mix from a shelter and went through the exact same thing. The issues is that the dog isn't potty trained yet. If he has to go, he's just going to go. Crate him at night, even if he howls to high heaven. We finally had to break down and get a shock collar. I hated to do it, but it was effective. Now he has a clean crate and actually like his crate and no barking all through the night. Good luck and just be patient and consistent.

You need to find some way to have someone give your young dog a potty break midday. 7 hours is too long for your little guy to hold his needs right now. As he gets older and more physically mature there should be no problem with the time frame. The howling and crying is called separation anxiety. Leave a radio on,place an old tshirt with your scent on it in the crate with him and place the crate near a window where he can see daylight or look out a window. Good luck

Puppies can't hold their stuff for long 15 min, so it's normal for them to go in the crate when they are in for long periods of time. Look for the telltale signs of going potty (hanging around a fav. peeing spot, going to the door, whining, pacing, sniffing floor excessively and squatting) if the pup starts before you get to him just pick him up and put him outside. Don't punish the pup for going inside, but praise, love, and pet profusely anytime the pup goes piddle outside as soon as he does any wanted behavior. If you wait too long the pup won't know what you’re praising for. Always be consistent.
The howling and crying is the worst to break, because who can stand to upset a baby. But believe me you that giving the dog attention (bad, yelling or good, cooing) while they are performing unwanted behavior will only encourage the pup to keep on. Only let him out when he stops crying/pawing at the door to the crate (letting him out is the reward for good behavior). The crate should never be used for punishment, or you'll have a hard time getting him in the crate to begin with. Try giving him treats when he goes in when you tell him.Good luck

Beagles are howling dogs by nature. That will probably be an issue forever. With the crate training, for a couple of weeks, you are supposed to leave the pup in the crate except when eating, going to the bathroom, and interacting with family. So, that would include night time also. I crated my pitbull - a very sweet girl, but hardheaded nonetheless. She learned very well that she would be put back in the crate if she reverted to her old behavior. She also cried a lot! Tough love is the best way. It's aggravating, but shouldn't be long term. He'll learn.

You need to look up crate training online. It is not as easy as just sticking a pup in a crate and locking the door. Learn the basics so that your dog will feel safe and sound in his crate.

Dogs generally will not soil in their crates if they feel it is their space. I would start by enticing the dog into the crate with a treat and then keep in crate for a short period of time (30 mins) while you are home. This is so he starts to acquiant the crate with his own space, his safe place. Gradually, increase time in crate and keep trying overnight in crate but keep crate near you for awhile so he knows you are near. Soon he will accept the crate as his own safe place. I did this with my mini schnauzer puppy, now he is 3 and he doesnt need it but he still will enjoy it at times when we are gone for extended time.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMRxh
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

hi Snoop, I genuinely have 2 6 month previous westie doggies. as quickly as we've been given them around 13 weeks previous I had to make the call to crate them or no longer. I had a Shar Pei for 4 years (he died of organic reasons) who grew to become into under no circumstances crated, yet additionally under no circumstances messed in the domicile or ate something the two. i assumed crates have been merciless! when I have been given the females i grew to become into in the perspective that they may be in basic terms like my Pei - boy grew to become into I incorrect! :) So what I did grew to become into I have been given 2 crates and the females sleep in them at evening - for peace of concepts for me! a minimum of this sort, I knew that they have been secure and does not get into something. on the commencing up in the process the day I positioned the crates in my hallway (8'x15') and gated off the section. at the instant we found out that the "pen" theory wasn’t working for us because of the fact now they have been crapping and peeing everywhere in the hallway apart from the crates. regrettably for the final month or so we've been protecting them in the crates in the process the day so as that they might learn how to hold it. We genuinely have a canines walker that comes by technique of a million/2 way in the direction of the day so as that they might stretch their legs and go potty exterior. it particularly is working for us and that they are gaining expertise of to regulate themselves and end going potty in the domicile. I additionally see here that others have indicated that doggies can’t carry their waste for long - this is genuine. The crate would be unable for use as punishment. My ladies genuinely go into the crate while they don’t could - it particularly is like their little room and that they sleep in there as quickly as we are domicile. What I did grew to become into I went to the fabric shop and accrued some fleece. I then decrease it into little blankets that have been fuzzy and fluffy and positioned them in the backside. they're snug and that they are ordinary to bathe in the event that they have an twist of destiny. or you need to use blankets or towels. i wish that as they become previous they might have extra freedom, like possibly have the entire hallway back for themselves. genuine now they aren’t very hassle-free and that i don’t want them entering into something that would injure them. sturdy success! :)
