I'm a Christian and this has been a subject that has always bothered me with great deal and caused me to doubt many things, so I want serious and thought-out answers.

My question is, why is it such a big deal that Jesus died for our sins?

He knew he was going to die, he knew he was the son of God, he knew that he would save the world, he knew that he would spend eternity in heaven and paradise. Now, who WOULDN'T do that? If you could supposedly save the world by dying, but all the while KNOWING that you would be in heaven eternally at the right hand of God your Father, why wouldn't you do that?

Would you give up your life for someone else you didn't know??? Would you give up all your money/house/comfort for someone that thought nothing of you??? Would you be willing to suffer tremendously, and I mean the worst type of suffering, for someone that didn't even care about you????

there are many reasons as to why its soooo important..its the whole key to our salvation...you really need to ask for understanding to see why its so important...a few words on your computer screen cannot explain to you why its so important...

1 Peter 3:18
"For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;"

It is not so much what happened to Him, but what happened to us. We can now spend eternity with Him in heaven/paradise. He has redeemed and restored our relationship with God. His death has established a new covenant between God and mankind. His Holy Spirit is the seal of this covenant, given to with those who believe in who Christ is and what He has done. The Spirit is God works within our lives, changing us from the sinful nature of our flesh, into His loved and accepted children. We can now have access and interact with the living God in a personal way.

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
John 14:6
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me"

God's Spirit is as much a gift as His forgiveness for our sin by His love, mercy and grace. There is nothing we can do to earn it, nothing we have to become to be accepted. He accepts us as we are. He wants us to enter into a new life, to become a new creation, to be "born again" with Him. That is now, everyday, and not after we die. There is so much more to Christianity than "religion". It is the beginning of an awesome and wonderful way of living life with God.

It is the way we were made to live life. I do not know what doubts you have/had, but I would like to answer any specific questions via e-mail if you would like. If I don't know the answer, I'll find someone who does. I hope this has been helpful. God bless you with His joy and peace.

If you're having doubts about Jesus dying to atone for everyone's sins, you might want to look into Judaism. If it's peace of mind you want, then you have to accept that Jesus forgives you with no strings attached. If it's accountability to God Himself and faith that He will treat you justly, then you could learn much in Judaism. Conversion is not necessary. Jews believe that all the righteous of the nations have a share in the world to come -- if there is one.

The reason Jesus did it is not the issue. If he had not done it, you wouldn't have blanket forgiveness. Christians would then be just like us Jews -- willing to meet our maker one-on-one with confidence that He will mete out our punishment appropriately.

Eternal punishment is not a part of Judaism. Christianity borrowed that concept from either Mithras or Zoroastrianism.

Your a Christian and the subject of Jesus bothers you?? Thats the craziest thing I've ever heard. Dont you remember what He went through to die on that cross. Him in the garden asking His father if there was any other way??

They stripped Him naked, put thorns in His head, mocked Him, beat Him so that He wasnt recognizable and still yet He cried out, Father forgive them. Imagine the people you love most in your life doing to you what Jesus did for you

You need to get on your knees in prayer and thank Him for loving you that much. Thank Him because now you get to be in heaven instead of burning in hell for eternity.

The way I understand it is that He didn't just undergo a physical death that was very painful, He had the wrath of God poured out on Him for the sins of all humanity and at least for a moment He got to experience what Hell is like when a person is in torment and separated from the presence of God.

Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, "This man is calling Elijah." 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, "Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him." 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. 51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, "Truly this was the Son of God!"

What youre not getting my friend, is that Jesus was not motivated by SELF. He died for us for us. Jesus dying on the cross means that He took on our sins so that we could get to heaven and not face eternal death and torture.

Without Jesus dying, and then rising, we would not have the Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth and knowledge. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us boldness to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ dying was like blood covering our sins - where they would previously need to kill animals for their blood to cover the people's sins, Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice and His blood covers our sins when we give our hearts to Him. If it werent for Him, God could not look at us because He is holy and cannot take our sinful state. The blood of Jesus covers our sins, and He intervenes for us (yes, Jesus intercedes to God for those who love Him).

And then such a practical matter - without the blood of Jesus, we would not be protected from Satan who seeks to destroy us.

A final word - are you sure you KNOW GOD my friend? If you dont, that could be why you are battling with this issue.

For our sins to be forgiven there must be the shedding of blood to cleanse our sins. And not just any blood but the blood of a man without sin. Nobody on earth qualify to die for the sins of mankind. Jesus, the Son of God, had to become the Man without sin to die for us. Not only that the man must be strong enough to endure all God's judgement on himself for all of mankind throughout all ages. Jesus therefore cannot die from his sufferings on the cross until He had endured all punishment for mankind on the cross and then He gave up His spirit. So who can do this except Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Jesus came not for the believer but for the sick at heart, the sinners, those who are farthest away from God. Now, that would include me and many whom I know. It is one thing to put your life down for someone you love. When I think of my children, I would no doubt die for them. But would you die for your enemy, one who really hated you all your life, one who gives you nothing but hurt and pain. When asked, would you gladly do that? Going to heaven was not a reward for Jesus as it is for those who are saved, because Jesus is God and that is where he dwells. We do not. Heaven is not our home we can return to. We are sinners and if we do not accept Jesus into our hearts, then we will go to hell. Because He is God, He could have easily saved Himself from the tremendous agony He endured while being crucified. Even then, He reached out to the criminal who hung next to him and He prayed for those who harmed him. There is no one who would do that, no not one. You say, well a muslim will gladly die for his cause and for the reward he thinks awaits him. But a muslim just like anyone else, would not gladly die for me, a christian simply because he loves me so much. He would die for his own sake, not for mine. Would I offer my child to suffer an unspeakable death for some unknown, a criminal? I don't think so. I would be too weak and selfish. I would want to protect my child.

I think the part we forget about is that He was fully human AND fully God.

Being fully human, He would suffer the same physical hurts that we are capable of suffering. Being fully God, how easy would it be to raise yourself up away from the torture? I think even knowing He was fufilling the Law and being obedient to God as His human Son it would still be a very great temptation. Even knowing He was going to heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father, it would be darn near impossible, but He did. You know the Bible tells us for a good man, some would choose to die. But would you choose to give your life up for someone who didn't deserve it, a criminal, a liar, a prostitute, a bigot, a racist, a pervert, a back stabber? Think of someone who has hurt you beyond belief, would you seriously consider dying for him/her?

Remember what Christ cried out at His crucifixion? "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?" At that point, His own Father couldn't even look at Him because He had become sin, not His own sin, but our sin. He died a death He didn't deserve out of such a great, deep passionate love for us, a love we can't even begin to comprehend or match.

I think we forget how brutal a death He suffered for us. We paint too pretty of a picture on our crosses. First, He was flayed to the bone, to the bone, muscles and tendons torn, quivering and bleeding. Then He was forced to carry the crosspiece thru town. Then to have His torn open back flung against wood and nails pounded through his hands and feet. Which I'm told would've crushed nerves worse than any smacking of a funny bone and you kow how you jump when that happens. Can you imagine all of that and then to be lifted up into the air and dropped, dropped into a hole? Can you imagine the agony He suffered when He had to push against His nailed feet and pull against His nailed hands just to breathe? The suffering He received when his laid open back rubbed against the wood?

Not only that, it was a shameful death, one that the roman government reserved for the worst of the offenders. To look down and realize you only see maybe one of your followers because everyone else ran away? To look on the face of your mother and know the great psychological pain she is suffering and knowing you can't do anything about it?

To have the knowledge that You could stop all of that in an instant, but to do so would plunge the whole of humanity into death, eternal death forever? To know that if you gave up, your greatest enemy would win for all time?

I honestly cannot begin to comprehend a love that great that would keep me on a cross with the full knowledge that I could call upon legions of angels to save me.

If you had that knowledge and ability to save yourself all that agony, even knowing the rewards, could you stop yourself from using it? I couldn't, I know I couldn't.

He had to set aside his Godhood and remain there. Otherwise, Satan would have dominion over all of us. Because none of us could keep the Law perfectly and be righteous in God's eyes. None of us can do that. To be perfectly truthful I am glad, really glad we don't live under the Law nowadays. We don't know how good we have it. Have you ever read the OT laws and the penalities for disobeying those laws? I doubt any of us would have survived our teen years. We would've been taken outside the city gates and stoned to death for disobedience.

We're always going to sin, but His Perfect Atonement saves us from being cast out of His presence forever. Forever. To know all we have to do is turn to Him, ask forgiveness and it's a done deal. How easy is that? It's a lot easier than what we truly deserve.

Hope this helps you in your questioning. God bless and have a great day!

the thing about it is, Jesus didn't WANT to die like that. he wanted to save us and all that, but read about the Garden of Gethsemenee (kay i cant spell) "his sweat was like drops of blood" he asked God THREE times if there was some other way. you ask that if you knew you were going to spend eternity in heaven.... blah blah. dont we as Christians know were goin to spend eternity with Christ, but we are too uncomfortable at times to speak to our lost friends about Christ? to turn the other cheek? Christ DIED. we wont even TALK. think about it. (prayin 4 you!)

It is a very big deal if Jesus had not died for our sins we would not be able to ask forgiveness for them . and man can not conceive a world where forgiveness is not given. the wages of sin is death the wage of forgiveness is eternal life .
