My son is 14. He is immature. Even at this age, he still runs through the house at top speed, he plays tag with children that are 7 and 8 years old, and he will do inappropriate things in public like scream and laugh at things that don't warrant such a response. My approach has been to bring the behavior to his attention and show him what is mature an appropriate for his age. His face says I understand but his actions say different. How can I bring my son to his rightful level?

My middle daughter always liked younger children as well. She's 16 now and still loves to play with little kids. She thinks they're cute. As far as running through the house and doing other things that are considered immature, have you tried giving him more responsibility? Make sure he has some chores to do, if you have a pet make it his responsibility to feed / water it. Kids need to be treated like they're older for them to act like it.

Hi my name is Paul, from Ireland ,I am 35 and have a 14 year old son.Its not an easy job at times.

I think kids, especially boys, mature at different rates and my guy is very childish too.

But when I think of todays climate of drug and alcohol abuse I'm pleased he's on the immature side!

Perhaps give him some more responsibility re chores at home, and encourage him to be involved with kids his own age, by joining clubs etc.

Overall I dont think you've anything to worry about.

during holidays or vacation, let him spend time with old people...those who are willing to converse with him so that he would know what it's like to be old...some old people are very restricting in talking to youngsters that's why you have to choose those who would really converse with him..it would also let him know how to behave and talk to older people..it would make him see the difference of being with those who are younger than him than those who are not...

but don't be too pushy because he might not learn a thing if you keep on pushing too much
